We have an exciting opportunity for a Vice President of Government Relations to lead our Government Relations and Grants strategy work. In this role, you’ll leverage your extensive knowledge of and strong reputation in Government Affairs to advance and influence government support for quality early childhood education and childcare at the federal and state levels.  You’ll drive the strategic direction of our policy interests and government relationships, while representing KinderCare before key external organizations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure KinderCare is among the leading voices in public policy debates affecting quality early childhood education and childcare.
  • Leverage expertise and relationships with governmental and industry stakeholders to achieve KinderCare’s public policy goals. Serve as the leading face of the organization in Washington, D.C., and maintain strong, high-level relationships with policymakers and officials across the states in which we operate.
  • Design, implement, and coordinate the company’s strategic direction as it relates to outreach and engagement with elected officials, government officials and their staff, third-party allies, industry partners, and grant funders.
  • Deliver timely communications to internal stakeholders regarding regulatory/legislative/policy developments that could impact the business to ensure an opportunity to influence outcomes.
  • Develop and implement effective advocacy efforts and strategies, as well as grant funding opportunities for key priorities at the Federal and State levels.
  • Establish trusted relationships with key business partners internally and externally (Congress, U.S. and State Administrative and regulatory agencies, trade associations, grant funders, third party influencers) to inform advocacy, influence the regulatory environment, and secure grant opportunities directly impacting KCE business
  • Manage a team of Government relations and grants professionals as well as outside lobbyists and trade association resources. 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 7+ years of professional experience working on Capitol Hill and/or within the Executive branch. Candidates’ experience would ideally include exposure to policy and legislative activities specific to early childhood education and childcare.
  • Thorough understanding of the legislative process, congressional procedures, and regulatory process, including an understanding of the roles and decision points in the legislative and executive bodies, as well as the role of associations and related organizations.
  • An ability to anticipate emerging government and public issues of importance to the industry and to position the company effectively.
  • Proven relationship and coalition building skills with an ability to interact effectively with business partners and executives to effectively influence and manage key relationships with a keen focus on collaboration and open communication.
  • Demonstrated ownership in managing objectives, team members, and stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Strong analytical skills and executive level oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
