Job Purpose

XL Fleet is looking for a VP of Government Relations & Policy to manage XL’s relationships with Government and industry organizations to help shape policy and incentives. This role will work closely with XL’s senior management team to understand the policy landscape, understand XL technology and customer applications to prioritize opportunities and develop XL’s strategy for working with Government & Utilities. This role is new to XL Fleet and will be an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work with many groups across the organization and help guide strategy and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong contacts with industry advocate groups focused on state, city, and federal agencies responsible for electrification programs.
  • Ensure XL technology and use cases are well represented for incentive programs designed to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the electrification policy landscape.
  • Monitor new legislation and programs as they are proposed and enacted.
  • Represent XL in committees, community meetings, and working groups.
  • Develop strategy and execution plan for programs and incentives most relevant to XL’s goals.
  • Work with various departments within XL to ensure clear understanding of requirements and goals as they relate to various policies and incentives.
  • Understand customer buying priorities and impact of incentives on XL competitiveness.
  • Work with various departments within XL to ensure efficient execution of tasks needed to capitalize on policy and incentive opportunities.
  • Manage external and internal resources to track landscape, analyze data, process applications, and any other support required to execute on these goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the policy landscape as it relates to hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • Extensive experience working with government agencies, specifically applying to or administering electrification incentive programs.
  • Strong track record of developing and executing on strategy for government relations.
  • Strong network within the vehicle electrification and policy ecosystem.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage many complex and detailed processes simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand and work within complex and continually changing policy landscape.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and speak persuasively.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external parties.
  • Strong oral and written communication/presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with the California Air Resources Board
  • Experience with Vehicle Electrification Industry Advocacy Groups, working groups and board participation
  • Passion for cleantech, electric vehicles, and sustainability
