Position Description

The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) seeks a motivated, savvy and experienced Vice President of Policy to work with the organization’s policy and programs team and its members in promoting and defending policies to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. This position will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in leading the development and execution of ACORE’s policy agenda, with an emphasis on federal government relations.

Key Job Duties

  • Play a key role in the development and implementation of organizational strategies to advance ACORE’s mission of accelerating the transition to a renewable energy economy, including legislative and regulatory efforts
  • Represent ACORE as needed in interactions with policymakers, ACORE members, and allies in support of key policy objectives
  • Collegially cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers, allies, consultants and external partners working in support of ACORE’s mission
  • Collaborate with ACORE’s management team, policy and programs team, fundraising team, and subject matter experts in drafting and editing high-quality publications in support of ACORE’s mission
  • Assist the organization’s policy, programs, communications, corporate engagement and other internal teams in support of ACORE’s mission and organizational objectives
  • Interact with media as needed in support of ACORE’s strategic messaging
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff
  • Support other tasks as assigned

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Extensive subject matter expertise on renewable energy, including an understanding of energy and climate policies, relevant tax policies, wholesale power markets, and key business and financial aspects of today’s renewable energy sector
  • Superlative written and oral communications skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly, and the ability to convey complex concepts in readily understandable terms
  • An in-depth understanding of the legislative and regulatory process
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to balance priorities and handle multiple important tasks simultaneously
  • Eight or more years experience working in a legislative body, as a government affairs representative or in a comparable role is preferred
  • Proven effectiveness as a manager
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, and a post graduate degree in a relevant field is
  • A collaborative and collegial work style is essential
