VP of Constituent Relations & Public
Position Overview

The Vice President of Constituent Relations and Public Affairs serves as the Association’s leader in managing a wide range of stakeholders, including alumni, friends, supporters, donors, members, legislators, and volunteers. Specific areas of focus include donor cultivation and stewardship, and engaging supporters to advance the university’s mission and goals with external governing bodies. This position is responsible for fostering relationships between University of
Texas alumni and appointed and elected officials on the state and federal levels.

Major Job Functions

  • Maintain relationships with government relations staff at UT
  • Direct the stewardship of the Forty Acres Society, 1883 Council, Legends Club, and other annual giving initiatives
  • Act as liaison to Texas Exes’ Public Affairs and Philanthropy committees to drive business goals for advocacy and fundraising initiatives
  • Proactively collaborate with UT development officers to build a pipeline for major gifts to the Texas Exes
  • Develop relationships with key prospects by conducting personal meetings and endearing them to the Texas Exes brand and philanthropic mission
  • Expanding the reach and influence of the Association’s network of local advocates to support specific policy initiatives
  • Expand the Association’s reach among diverse communities by prospecting and cultivating relationships with key alumni and friends
  • Oversee the timely management of acknowledgment letters, pledge reminders, and donor inquiries
  • Direct, coordinate, and manage donor relations issues related to contributions, scholarships, and endowments

Essential Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (UT grad is a plus)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present Texas Exes’ philanthropic and state/federal advocacy vision to constituents in a compelling way
  • Experience working on a political and/or fundraising campaign
  • Ability to interact with varied ages, personalities, and status levels (donors, volunteers, employees, professional peers, political figures, university leadership)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database software, and CRM software
  • Ability to frequently travel to various locations to meet with constituents, coordinate special events, or other meetings
  • Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events
  • A proven manager with a track record of leading diverse teams and creating positive culture for employees and volunteers

  • An effective leader will be shrewd, non-partisan, and operate with neutrality, cultivating a united sense of purpose for UT Austin advocates
  • Strong organizational skills with follow through
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external teams
  • Exceptional time management skills with the ability to multi-task
