3 years experience in health policy and/or advocacy at a state or federal level, or 5 years experience working in public or regulatory affairs in hospital administrations or operations or in the health insurance industry. Must have superior writing and editing skills, strategic thinking capabilities, political sensibility, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Will require lobbyist registration.


The VP of Government Relations and Health Policy will develop and lead both internal and external strategic state and federal government relations initiatives to support Sentara Healthcare’s mission and strategic goals. This individual will also lead specific internal communications. efforts regarding health policy, and he/she will educate elected officials relative to Sentara Healthcare’s legislative priorities. This position partners with internal clinical, legal and administrative parties to help develop Sentara’s legislative and regulatory policy positions. The VP will support the overall function of Sentara’s System Development department by assisting the departmental teams responsible for community development, communications and special system projects. This position reports to the Senior Corporate Vice President for System Development.
