Salary Hiring Range:  $181,000-$215,000annually (paid bi-weekly) 

 NOTE: Competitive salary commensurate with experience


Career Summary: 

The Vice President of Policy & Government Affairs oversees a high-performing team and the development of ANA policy recommendations/position statements and leads work to advance ANA’s policy priorities through the direction and coordination of ANA’s federal legislative/regulatory, state legislative, political and grassroots programs including ANA’s political action committee (PAC); serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team; fosters collaboration among team members and across departments;  develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders; represents ANA decision makers, coalition partners and other external stakeholders; and participates in association-wide efforts to develop and sustain a positive work environment, and high-performing teams, as evidenced by improved employee satisfaction and superior outcomes.



Master’s Degree in government affairs, policy or a related field is required, doctoral degree preferred.  Relevant experience in lieu of graduate degree(s).

Related Work Experience:

A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience with increasing responsibility and accountability in a setting such as the government affairs or health policy department of an association (health care focus preferred); prior policy, legislative and regulatory groups, advocacy, lobbying or coalitions. At least ten (10) years of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to critically think and collaboratively build solutions in a politically sensitive, high visibility work environment.
  • Ability to recognize and address business opportunities and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Interpersonal skills and political insight with ability to interact with and influence executive level individuals, consultants, vendors, volunteers, and customers to recognize and address sensitivities.
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and demanding workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and appreciate cultural differences and meet the needs of individuals and organizations from different cultures.
  • Ability to relate easily to diverse individuals and groups and foster consensus.
  • Solid understanding of the legislative process.
  • Strong understanding of the health care delivery system as well as an in-depth understanding of the legislative process, federal government operations, and the political process.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive environmental scans and analyze complex, issues and legislation.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive legislative and regulatory advocacy strategy.
  • Ability to relate easily to diverse individuals and groups, form and lead coalitions, and foster consensus.


Preferred Skills & Experience   

Prior association, lobbying and political action committee experience preferred.


Work Schedule: 

Hybrid: Employees are considered Hybrid if they are regularly scheduled to work in at least 20% of their work week or work month in an ANA Enterprise Office.

Hybrid employees are expected to travel to the office when requested and/or when necessary to achieve results or meet business needs.

  • The ANA Enterprise will hire primarily from the District of Columbia (DC), Maryland (MD), and Virginia (VA).
