What We Are Looking For:

L’Oréal USA seeks a Director of Federal Public Affairs to join the US Public Affairs team within the Corporate Affairs & Engagement Department. In this role, the Director will contribute to the advancement of the company’s strategic public affairs objectives through proactive advocacy and engagement with the stakeholders that make and influence a broad range of federal public policy. The Director will be responsible for supporting the Vice President of Public Affairs to address highly complex policy challenges related to achieving the company’s ambitious business growth by protecting its license to operate in the U.S. and promoting its corporate reputation as the company that Creates the Beauty that Moves the World. Finally, the Director will be responsible for communicating policy trends and potential impacts of government actions to cross-functional internal stakeholders.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong, ongoing external relationships with federal legislators, policymaker influencers, NGOs, and other key opinion leaders to effectively advocate or educate on L’Oréal policy positions, corporate achievements, future goals, and commitments.
  • Leverage stakeholder relationships in the public affairs space to advance L’Oréal’s public policy priorities and promote a better understanding of the Essentiality of Beauty and the role L’Oréal plays as the industry leader.
  • Represent L’Oréal externally on priority public policy issues at US industry trade associations and educate stakeholders on complex positions to policymakers and business decision-makers.
  • Identify opportunities for thought leadership on priority public policy issues and support the development and execution of integrated public affairs strategies to leverage the full range of corporate channels to reach public affairs audiences, including advocacy and industry relations, events and sponsorships, and employee activation.
  • Lead and organize visits to Washington DC, including visits with internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strategic networks of internal stakeholders, locally and globally, for cross-functional policy issue alignment.
  • Monitor and provide analysis on the implications of pending executive action, agency action and federal legislation, government policies, NGO action and competitor strategies for L’Oréal in the US. Develop insights on emerging public policy trends to inform internal business practices and future business planning.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support to key business and corporate partners on issues management and strategic communications in furtherance of protecting and promoting L’Oréal’s reputation in the US.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Travel: Must be willing to regularly travel to North American HQ in New York, NY.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs, Public Policy, Political Science, Political Communications, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of cumulative experience within Federal Government, a Political Campaign, NGO, Public Affairs/Communications consulting firm or in-house at a matrixed organization strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the political process at the federal level.
  • Strong executive presence and communication (written and verbal)/presentation skills to engage senior leaders.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and business acumen.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced and results-driven environment preferred.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously with evolving deadlines.
