Associate Vice President (AVP) of Public Policy
The AVP of Public Policy role, within Corporate Affairs, is dedicated to prescription drug, Medicare Part D, PBM, and pharmacy public policy development for Humana’s federal policy and advocacy team. Reporting to the Vice President of Public Policy, the role involves crafting policy initiatives on the future of prescription drug policy to inform thought leadership, advocacy, and overall strategic positioning. Collaboration with the Policy and Federal Affairs teams is crucial for coordinating materials supporting Humana’s regulatory and legislative initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze, define, and communicate critical prescription drug and pharmacy trends in legislative or regulatory environments; identify or predict outcomes.
- Federal policy development for Humana public policies related to Medicare Part D, Medicare Part B drug coverage and reimbursement, PBMs, pharmacies, and specialty pharmacies.
- Lead policy development for initiatives on the future of the Medicare prescription drug program.
- Strategic counsel on the Inflation Reduction Act’s implementation for the CenterWell Pharmacy and Humana Medicare teams.
- Direct advocacy with senior CMS officials (in partnership with the VP of Public Policy).
- Proactive strategic counsel to senior business leadership anticipating legislative and regulatory trends.
- Supervise and manage a Public Policy Lead for prescription drug policy.
- Partner with the VP of Public Policy to advance Humana policy priorities through affiliated trade organizations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Identify business risks and opportunities in external policy developments.
- Work with internal business partners to identify assets to augment public policy positions.
- Assure philosophical consistency in policy approaches across the enterprise.
- Develop regulatory and legislative responses to proposed rules/laws.
Use your skills to make an impact
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 or more years government program experience
- 5 or more years experience in prescription drug, pharmacy, PBM, or Medicare policy
- Experience working at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services or a related federal agency
- Demonstrated experience interacting and advising senior-level executives
- Strong track record of applied analysis, research, and resource development supporting healthcare policy
- Solid understanding of relevant policy and regulatory issues
- Ability to translate complex issues in a clear, concise manner to business leaders and advocacy team
- Passion for the development of innovative, high-quality government healthcare programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in health/public policy, economics, or healthcare administration
- 10 or more years’ experience in prescription drug, pharmacy, PBM, or Medicare policy
Additional Information:
- Remote work considered across the US, with preference for candidates in Washington DC or a large metropolitan area.
- Candidate must be willing to work Eastern time zone hours.
- Requires 10-20% travel as business needs dictate.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Pay Range: $181,200 – $249,300 per year
