The Opportunity
At USAFacts, we are committed to providing unbiased and transparent data about the United States. We are seeking a data-minded, strategic thinker with public policy and government advocacy experience to join our mission-driven team.
Strong candidates will have worked with government agencies, policy makers, and advocacy organizations, and demonstrate an understanding of government data and the government data ecosystem. In this role, they will play a crucial part in developing and implementing policy and strategy aimed at improving government data and its accessibility and usability for the American public.
This role does not include direct people management. It is a collaborative, individual contributor role.
Key Priorities and Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders across the organization to synthesize and communicate policy changes that would benefit USAFacts and the American public.
- Develop a policy, legislative, and federal strategy that drives the organization’s objectives of improving government data.
- Implement and coordinate cross-functional projects aimed at improving government data and making it more usable for policymakers.
- Advance our data priorities by forming relationships with agency officials and elected leaders and working with them to accomplish the organization’s data policy goals.
- Develop panel of government data experts within federal agencies and local governments who can help implement advocacy strategies and serve as data subject matter experts
- Advise on USAFacts data roadmap and acquisition strategy.
- Track public policy issues at the federal, state, and local level, that could impact or be relevant to USAFacts mission and advocacy goals.
- Work with national and local organizations to shape and accomplish USAFacts goals of making significant improvements to publicly available government data.
- Measure impact of advocacy efforts through tracking KPIs and relevant metrics.
Required Experience, Skills, Education:
- At least five years’ experience working with government advocacy or in public policy.
- History of working with federal government agencies, policymakers, and advocacy organizations.
- Knowledge of and history of working with government data, including understanding of government data processes and existing relationships with key members of the government data ecosystem.
- Network of and experience with building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including government officials and other non-profits or advocacy organization.
- Deep understanding of the government and the public policy process.
- Strategic mindset regarding existing advocacy efforts surrounding government data and organizations in the space.
- Experience with and knowledge of government data, data policy, open government, and efforts to improve government effectiveness preferred.
- Experience with and history of success in developing, coordinating, and implementing advocacy efforts in a related field.
- Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and unstructured environment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Education:
- Experience with and knowledge of government data, data policy, open government, and efforts to improve government effectiveness is preferred.
- Ideal candidates will have experience with state and local government, in addition to federal government.
- A strong and broad network of relationships within government data organizations is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
The starting cash compensation range for the Data Policy and Advocacy Manager role in Bellevue, WA includes a base salary range of $101,500 to $126,900, plus a 10% performance bonus target opportunity.
The maximum of the base salary range for the role is $152,300 per year. Individual pay increases are assessed annually based on multiple factors such as demonstrated skill in the role and context, progress and performance against goals, and increased experience.

Location and Hybrid Work
The position is based in Bellevue, Washington and our organization practices intentional hybrid work with an in-office emphasis to build trust and prioritize the collaboration, connection, and interaction needed to accomplish pressing goals. All USAFacts employees are expected to work on-site Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays remain flexible work-from-home or office workdays. Our standard workday is 9:00 am – 5:00 pm PT, with core hours of 10:00 am – 3:00 pm in-person on in-office days. Employees work out their full schedule with their manager to align with the demands of the role.
