Job Description
The Public Relations Strategist will focus on creating and executing compelling PR campaigns to support significant new brand launches while growing awareness and trial of our existing pet portfolio. The role is responsible for creating narratives and public relations plans that guide the brand story of a variety of pet health products from Elanco. This position will work alongside the brand marketing teams at Elanco to provide counsel on public positioning and help the marketing team tell brand stories and generate earned media coverage as part of their overall integrated communications plans. This position is responsible for developing strong relationships across a variety of internal and external stakeholders, ultimately with the goal of ensuring public relations efforts help to achieve immediate and long-term business goals.
Responsibilities Include:
- Formulating, reviewing, and providing counsel on strategic public relations plans and strategies across a wide portfolio of projects and products.
- Establishes and cultivates relationships with internal brand managers, key stakeholders, as well as external agencies to ensure that all public relations efforts are strategically aligned. Sits on lead team calls to present, provide strategic counsel, and share real-time feedback. Manages up and across the organization to ensure key leaders and stakeholders are informed and aligned with any shifts in strategy or executional plans.
- Developing and executing media relations plans, including but not limited to developing and maintaining pitch list, developing strong relationships with key media outlets, developing press releases, media statements to increase company and product visibility.
- Develop, review, and distribute communications content including press releases, fact sheets, key messages, features, by-lined articles, op-eds, social media posts, and media toolkits in support of a variety of brands.
- Organizing and running events, including press conferences, tours, as well as internal meetings and the ability to develop timelines, invitations, run of shows, suggested talking points, prepping speakers, and ensuring flawless event execution.
- Reviewing and analyzing earned media coverage to forecast news cycles, identify areas of trending public interest and identify opportunities for media outreach or newsjacking.
- Work with social media team members to inform and create social posts about relevant news topics.
- Provide spokesperson training, preparation, and counsel for internal experts and third-party experts to ensure key message delivery.
- Create and manage issues and crisis management plans.
- Track media results and manage ongoing reporting to leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 5-7 years’ experience in communications, journalism, or marketing within a corporate or agency environment experience.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and execute successful public relations campaigns.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong writing skills are a must.
- Experience developing, managing, and executing public relations and integrated communications campaigns.
- Strong editing skills and fluent knowledge of AP Style.
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Previous experience in pet, animal health, or retail/ecommerce/consumer packaged good communications or marketing with excellent skills including written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to think critically and strategically and translate strategy into action.
- Proven ability to counsel, coach, and influence members of the company at all levels.
- Work independently, as well as part of a team, to establish project deliverables.
- Strong multitasking abilities, ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
- Self-starter who is unafraid to speak up and challenge.
- Experience working with a variety of agencies and commercial workflows.
- Flexible and fluid—ability to shift gears and pivot as needed.
