The position will use a wide variety of digital communications tools – social media, videos, email, texting, graphic design, and more – to produce content and tell the story of Common Cause North Carolina and our members, to engage young voters, and to help us build an inclusive, multiracial democracy.

This role reports to the Director of Communications for Common Cause North Carolina, and is located in North Carolina (with a preference for someone in the Triangle or Triad areas). We hope our new Digital Communications Associate will join us in June!

  • Visit each of our HBCU campuses 1-2 times per semester to capture video and photos, especially for our on-campus events

Support our work to expand our reach to a more diverse and engaged membership

  • Design and produce digital content to expand our reach with North Carolinians, with a special focus on people between the ages of 18-35, including content that educates about elections and democracy issues and motivates them to vote and to take action on important policy issues
  • Produce digital content that elevates our brand among North Carolinians, especially those between the ages of 18-35
  • Develop, implement and evaluate strategies to further grow and diversify our membership via digital engagement
  • Support the management of social media and other digital platforms for Common Cause North Carolina

  • A track record of working collaboratively with others
  • Strong and compelling writing and public speaking skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts for a general audience (and in particular, a young audience) and comfort being on camera
  • Critical thinking skills, and a resourceful approach to problem-solving
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and comfort with multiple and shifting priorities
  • Deep familiarity with office productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom), and a demonstrated ability to learn new tools on own
  • Openness to feedback, and awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth

The following is required:

  • Per our non-partisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party

We have a preference for candidates who also demonstrate:

  • Experience managing email campaigns, especially to thousands of recipients
