Responsibilities

  • Identify, manage, and respond to all regulatory proposals impacting manufacturers of flexible packaging and suppliers to the industry with special focus on FDA, EPA, and OSHA.
  • Develop FPA’s thought leadership in comment submissions on toxics in packaging, facility environmental and safety rules, medical device packaging guidance, and sustainability and circularity of flexible packaging.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to FPA’s membership and be available to answer questions about compliance with new regulations.
  • Monitor the Federal Register and provide a report to the CEO and Director of Government Relations on areas of potential engagement. Propose and meet realistic timelines for regulatory submissions and approvals.
  • Staff coalitions and represent FPA at events as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or environmental science. Advanced degree preferred.
  • This position requires 0-5 years of experience in developing environmental and safety policy based on member feedback.
  • Professional development opportunities and membership in continuing education organizations will be provided.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Understanding the regulatory processes, the role of committee work in trade associations, and regulatory compliance for flexible packaging manufacturers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication including presentation skills with diverse stakeholder audience.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail and excellent analytical, strategic, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and collectively to build consensus amongst internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on various projects simultaneously, adjust to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results.
  • A commitment to promoting and working in an inclusive and diverse environment with colleagues from multiple backgrounds.
  • Ability to travel (30%).

Benefits

  • A salary of $75,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Employee 401K plan with matching contribution up to three percent.

  • Hybrid schedule with up to two days working from home/a location other than the office. Thursdays are mandatory in-office days.
