Strategic Advocacy Director

Location: Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy, providing various levels of flexibility while also ensuring that associates have opportunities to connect in-person. Unless in a designated virtual-eligible role and specified as primarily virtual by the hiring manager, associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process.

Role Overview

The Strategic Advocacy Director is responsible for building, managing, and growing multiple enterprise and business unit-specific strategic advocacy programs via grassroots and grasstops to support and enhance efforts to influence federal and state legislative and regulatory outcomes and advance other business needs.

How You Will Make an Impact

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with federal and state government relations and business unit leaders to proactively identify public policy and business unit priorities in need of strategic advocacy support.
  • Developing and implementing strategies that leverage best practices and cutting-edge capabilities to continuously enhance the strategic advocacy function.
  • Creating concise, precise, and compelling communications to motivate key stakeholders to contact local, state, and federal elected officials and regulators on public policies that align with the company’s core business priorities and strategic needs.
  • Managing and developing content for multiple communication platforms (e.g., websites, newsletters, social media).
  • Overseeing consultants and vendors for multiple grassroots and grasstops platforms, including development and maintenance of financial budgets.
  • Identifying, securing, and executing earned and paid media through consultants and aligned third parties to influence legislation, regulations, and other strategic business needs.
  • Coordinating with national and state trade associations, coalitions, and industry partners to amplify the impact of strategic advocacy programs.
  • Developing and maintaining data-driven tracking of strategic advocacy programs, including key performance indicators.
  • Providing regular updates on the impact of strategic advocacy programs to Public Affairs leadership and other internal stakeholders.
  • Representing the company in sponsored formal and informal advocacy coalitions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Requires a BA/BS in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences

  • 10 years of experience leading corporate advocacy programs is preferred.

Salary Information

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below location(s), the salary range for this specific position is $113,804.00 to $170,706.00.

Location: District of Columbia (Washington, DC)

Work Environment

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Unless designated as primarily virtual by the hiring manager, associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week. Specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process. Candidates must reside within 50 miles or a 1-hour commute of a relevant Elevance Health location.
