About Healthy Climate New Mexico

Healthy Climate New Mexico (HCNM) mobilizes healthcare and public health professionals to advocate for climate solutions that protect health and promote equity. Launched in 2023 by a group of committed professionals, HCNM has rapidly grown to over 300 members across New Mexico. We use our collective voice—centered on health—to drive meaningful action that fosters a more sustainable and equitable future.

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Executive Director to lead Healthy Climate New Mexico through its next phase of growth. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and partners to strengthen the organization’s infrastructure, expand our advocacy and educational impacts, and build relationships with diverse communities across New Mexico.

This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, mission-driven leader who is passionate about the intersection of climate, health, and equity—and ready to build a dynamic, sustainable organization and climate health movement.

What Success Looks Like (One Year In)

In your first year, successful outcomes will include:

  • Securing a robust fundraising pipeline including foundation, donor, and sponsor revenue
  • Expanding and actively engaging membership and volunteer leaders, representing New Mexico’s geographic, cultural, and professional diversity
  • Establishing productive relationships with key local, Tribal, and state decision-makers
  • Maintaining key partnerships with health institutions, climate advocates, and allied organizations
  • Maintaining efficient internal systems for communication, operations, and programming
  • Celebrating policy wins advancing climate and health at local, Tribal, or state levels

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of HCNM’s strategic plan in partnership with the Board and engaged volunteers
  • Serve as a public spokesperson and advocate for the organization
  • Build and maintain partnerships with health, climate, and policy stakeholders

Fundraising & Financial Management

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies (grants, contracts, donors, sponsorships)
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board and fiscal sponsor
  • Manage grant applications, reporting, and financial operations to ensure fiscal health

Organizational Development & Operations

  • Supervise and support staff, fostering a positive, inclusive, and equitable work culture
  • Establish organizational policies and systems to support day-to-day operations
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and reporting requirements
  • Track and report organizational impacts and outcomes

Member Engagement & Program Development

  • Implement strategies to grow and engage HCNM’s membership
  • Support member-led advocacy campaigns, educational programs, and volunteer leadership development
  • Support the creation of communications and outreach tools and strategies that elevate member voices

Board & Partner Engagement

  • Collaborate with the Board on governance, strategy, and organizational growth
  • Support Board recruitment and development
  • Represent HCNM in coalitions, partnerships, and collaborative efforts across the state and nationally

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree in public health, healthcare, nonprofit management, or related field preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit management, including budgeting and fundraising
  • Proven success in securing funding from grants, donors, and foundations
  • Strong knowledge of public health and healthcare systems
  • Experience with policy advocacy and legislative engagement
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Deep personal and/or professional connections with New Mexico and knowledge of New Mexico communities, cultures, and traditions
  • New Mexico residency (or willingness to relocate) and ability to travel frequently in-state
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance

Preferred

  • Background in climate, healthcare, or public health policy
  • Familiarity with New Mexico’s political and healthcare landscape
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience with membership-based organizations or coalitions

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $75,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience, with annual performance-based bonus depending on fundraising benchmarks
