Maui Humane Society was first established as a nonprofit in 1953, incorporated in 1962, and is the only open admission animal shelter on the island of Maui. The organization currently has a 9-member Board of Directors, a dedicated staff of 96, and an annual operating budget of approximately $12 million. With strong leadership and strategic vision, Maui Humane Society’s innovative programs are saving more lives than ever before and enhancing the quality and availability of animal welfare services on Maui.
Maui Humane Society is at an important moment in its history, offering an exciting opportunity for a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to shape its future. In partnership with the staff, the CEO will focus on inspiring a collaborative culture, while setting clear goals and measurable objectives. With this renewed focus, the CEO will ensure the organization remains fiscally sustainable while applying mission-driven criteria and financial rigor to evaluate opportunities. They will lead a talented leadership team in developing and executing strategic priorities that are designed to enhance the organization’s impact and achieve transformative results for the community it serves.
This is a high-profile position, requiring a dynamic and persuasive individual with exceptional communication skills to inspire, motivate, and mobilize others. This individual will also be forward-thinking with an unwavering commitment to serving the mission of Maui Humane Society.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or related field is required (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum 8–10 years of senior leadership experience, ideally in animal welfare or nonprofit sectors.
- A proven track record in fundraising, with a focus on attracting high-quality donors and securing substantial contributions.
- Proven track record in strategic planning and organizational growth.
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
Compensation & Benefits
The base compensation range for this position annually is between $175,000 and $200,000 and is commensurate with experience. The comprehensive benefits package includes:
