## Position Summary

This key position in the Global Government Affairs department provides administrative support and legislative staff support for the Senior Vice President and other members of the Global Government Affairs staff. This role requires a highly motivated self‑starter who thrives in an energetic, fast‑paced environment, can juggle and prioritize multiple tasks, and works well under the pressure of short deadlines.

The assistant will help maintain staff schedules; draft and engage in direct communication with congressional offices, member airlines and other key contacts; plan and execute various events—including congressional receptions, political fundraisers and legislative luncheons—and handle standard office functions such as expense reports, processing invoices and arranging travel.

## Duties and Responsibilities

– **Administrative support** — Maintain the Senior Vice President’s schedule and the departmental Outlook calendar, support travel arrangements, and keep contact lists updated.
– **Council coordination** — Coordinate meetings for the Government Affairs Council (GAC) and the State and Local Affairs Council (SLAC).
– **Event planning** — Plan and coordinate department events such as Capitol Hill receptions and fundraising events for Airlines for America’s political action committee.
– **Congressional knowledge** — Develop knowledge of congressional members, public officials, key congressional staff, and the association’s member carriers and issues.
– **Communications management** — Create and disseminate mass emails and other communications, often under tight deadlines. Maintain updated contact databases and proficiency with relevant databases and subscription services.
– **Website maintenance** — Maintain the government affairs section of the A4A website [www.airlines.org] with current issue briefs, letters, testimony, congressional events, and the GAC section of the membership website.
– **Clerical processing** — Enter and record staff expense reports, travel authorizations, and process departmental invoices.
– **Additional duties** — Perform other duties as assigned.

## Requirements

## Qualifications

– Exceptional planning and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.
– Knowledge of Capitol Hill required; experience in a congressional office strongly preferred.
– Strong writing and proofreading skills.
– Strong interpersonal skills; team‑oriented.
– Resourceful, flexible and confident, with strong ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
– Ability to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision.
– Outstanding knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook; ability to learn additional software programs.
– Standard hours with availability to work additional hours as needed.

## Work Environment

If approved by the department supervisor, A4A employees may work from home on Fridays. All employees are expected to work in the office Monday through Thursday.

## Salary Information

The annual salary range for this position is **$80,000 to $90,000**. Typically, new hires are brought in between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on experience, qualifications and internal equity.
