About this Position
The Insurance Regulatory Attorney position is an in-house role that provides insurance-related legal advice and guidance to Primerica Life Insurance. Primerica Life Insurance Company distributes term life insurance and savings and investment products primarily to middle-income families and individuals across North America (“Primerica”) through its 140,000+ licensed agents. The Insurance Regulatory Attorney will serve as a leader within the Insurance Business Counsel team of Primerica Life Insurance Company and its non-insurance company affiliates. The Insurance Regulatory Attorney will provide insurance legal advice and guidance to senior management. The incumbent will also be responsible for the organization and management of their direct reports and will collaborate with other team members to provide direction based on knowledge and experience.
The attorney will join a team that performs legal work in connection with the development, administration, and/or distribution of life insurance products, as well as agent licensing. The attorney will support Insurance Business Operations, Insurance Business Marketing, Insurance Licensing, Compliance, Marketing Advisory, Investigations, and other departments throughout the company by providing state and federal statutory and regulatory guidance specific to insurance and other financial services businesses such as personal lines and legal protection plans. The individual is responsible for staying current on legal and regulatory developments, communicating material changes to the business, and guiding the business on implementation of those changes as needed.
The individual will engage with their business client in connection with its ongoing investment in new technologies and provide legal and regulatory guidance to support such development, applying solution-based creative thinking on a regular basis. This position will also develop strong relationships with, advise, and work in collaboration with lawyers and staff of other divisions within the Office of the General Counsel, including privacy, security, technology, and state and federal government relations.
Estimated salary range for this role is: $135,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experience, and a target bonus opportunity of 11% of base salary.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills, including experience effectively supervising others and working well with legal and business teams comprising multiple departments.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and address multiple issues simultaneously.
- Strong communication, legal research, and writing skills, including the ability to concisely and effectively communicate complex matters in oral and written form.
- Ability to identify, interpret, and apply new statutes, regulations, and directives and assist in their timely compliance.
- Ability to handle complex legal matters, analyze legal issues, draft legal documents, and use sound legal judgment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently under limited direction of a senior attorney, as a team member and/or team coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor Degree.
- Member of any state bar association.
- Seven or more years of life or other insurance experience practicing at a law firm, in-house, or at a government agency preferred.
- Understanding of life insurance, agent licensing and/or marketing laws, regulations, and governing authorities preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory role preferred.
