CLIMATE EQUITY MANAGER
The Climate Equity Manager will develop programs to support the organization’s strategic direction and create and manage long-term goals. The individual will be tasked with developing budgets and operating plans for programs and assisting in writing program funding proposals. The Climate Equity Manager will report to the Senior Director of Climate Equity and supervise the Climate Equity Coordinator.
Program-Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead the Empowering Resilient Women program’s planning, implementation, and monitoring to deepen political education and develop precise skills for organizing and campaigning around issues.
- Develop and update yearly a budget and operating plan for the Empowering Resilient Women program.
- Produce accurate and timely reporting of the Empowering Resilient Women program status throughout its life cycle.
- Manage engagement with Empowering Resilient Women program members.
- Coordinate partnerships with collaborators.
- Coordinate a grassroots climate equity training series—identify needs, develop workshops, conduct trainings, secure guest speakers/trainers, & coach others in conducting climate justice trainings.
Partnership Building Responsibilities:
- Design and implement actions and events to mobilize base, allies & partners toward key climate justice policy wins.
- Build relationships with offices of resilience, local and state elected officials.
- Develop/maintain effective relationships with partner organizations, allied groups, & community leaders.
- Create and manage long-term goals.
Community Engagement:
- Represent CLEO in the community, including attending events and conferences, participating in panels, networking, etc.
- Co-facilitate climate training in the community and represent CLEO at various stakeholder events related to climate justice work.
- Assist with coordinating, planning and executing seasonal extreme weather trainings (heat, flooding, hurricane) done in collaboration with county and nonprofit partners; including Train the Trainer program scheduled to be held in the Spring of 2025.
- Attend to county commission/city meetings when relevant.
- Participate in budget advocacy, attend budget hearings that advance climate justice and climate resilience efforts.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Purchase program supplies.
- Maintain databases (community engagements, expenses, surveys, etc.) and generate reports as needed.
- Supervise ERW program interns and coordinator.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Have a strong understanding of climate change impacts in frontline & marginalized communities.
- Be committed to CLEO’s mission and able to draw others into CLEO’s work.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative & manage multiple projects; & ability to work independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team to advance the organization’s mission and goals.
- Ability to interact with & understand people of various social, cultural, economic, & educational backgrounds.
- Must be detail-oriented & able to meet deadlines.
- Competency in software, including Google Suite, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Asana.
- Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
- Ability to travel locally and work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Minimum of five years of relevant work and supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, particularly in climate justice or community engagement initiatives.
- Proven track record of successfully managing projects and teams in a nonprofit setting.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, government agencies, and funders.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills; ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to varied audiences.
- Experience in capacity building and training of staff or community members on climate-related issues.
- Proficiency in Spanish and/or Kreyol for community engagement and outreach efforts.
Position Details:
- Full-time (40 hrs/week)
- Core Hours: 9am-5:30pm
- Location: Miami, Florida (hybrid)
- Salary range: $65,000 – $75,000
