About the Position
Dexis Professional Services is recruiting for a Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist who will be embedded within USAID’s Center for Education, Bureau for Inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation. The Specialist will support the overall engagement and communications goals for the education sector of USAID through the Education Support Initiative 2 (ESI 2) institutional support contract.
The Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist works closely with both the Communications and Knowledge Management and Learning teams to coordinate USAID education related communications and knowledge products across the agency, and support the launch and dissemination of these products ensuring accessibility, relevance and usefulness in the education sector.
USAID’s Bureau for Inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation integrates technical expertise with values-driven, cross-cutting priorities, and modern approaches to the way USAID performs its work. It provides client-centered technical services to USAID’s Missions worldwide, supports programming to innovate, learn, and address emerging issues, and provides technical leadership within the Agency and externally to enhance development impact.
The Bureau for Inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation (IPI/EDU) leverages its expertise, partnerships, and global perspective to guide and influence the education sector, advancing U.S. Government development priorities. All members of IPI are measured on how they foster a climate of respect in interactions with others, value differing perspectives, and treat others in a fair, equitable, and culturally sensitive manner. All members of the Bureau are expected to value diversity, equity, and inclusion in performing everyday duties and responsibilities.
This is a predominantly onsite position with potential for 1-2 days per pay period for telework.
Responsibilities
Launch and dissemination of USAID Education communications/knowledge products
- Develop and advise on approaches to effectively launch, disseminate and promote use of new and existing technical resources and knowledge products.
- Work with the Communications advisor on editorial calendar for knowledge product release, and write, edit, and provide clearance for related communications content.
- Conduct and/or oversee end-user research and focus groups to understand and promote best practices that encourage knowledge product uptake and use.
- Work with subject matter experts and the professional development team on the design and implementation of learning events to support the launch of technical resources and learning products.
- Use data and analytics to measure, report on, and provide recommendations on communications and knowledge product development and dissemination.
Internal Communications for USAIDs education workforce
- Oversee the development of the USAID’s education internal newsletter focused on learning topics relevant for USAID’s education global workforce; ensure content is relevant, engaging and easy to digest.
- Coordinate with the Knowledge Management and Learning team to increase awareness of and promote regular use of USAID’s education internal learning platforms (e.g. myusaid, programnet) and related content.
Communications/Knowledge product development
- Create and oversee the development of engaging, end-user focused communications/ knowledge products using digital media (e.g. toolkits, blogs, graphics, short videos, podcasts, animations).
- Collaborate with the Knowledge Management and Learning Team and subject matter experts to develop and recommend content for USAID learning platforms such as edu-links, learning lab, and myusaid.
Content sourcing, coordination and clearance
- Together with the Communications Advisor, coordinate with Regions, Mission and within EDU to pro-actively source content ensuring that program and results are highlighted equitably.
- Coordinate upcoming content for both knowledge and communications products.
- Coordinate between IPI/EDU mechanisms on knowledge products and communication activities and deliverables.
- Provide guidance and clearance on internal and external knowledge management and communications products for the Center.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance required.
- Master’s degree and a minimum of four years of experience – or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of six years of experience required. Ideally, this education and/or experience will be in the fields of communications, knowledge management, international development, education, or other related field.
- Demonstrated effective writing skills to produce compelling, high-quality copy on relevant topics for diverse communication channels targeting a variety of audiences including: blogs, website content, copy for promotional materials, social media posts etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including ability to write technical documents and give state-of-the-art presentations to colleagues in and outside of USAID.
- Preferred experience in digital and multimedia development (graphic design, photography, videos, podcasts, animations) for communications.
- High level of judgment, ingenuity and originality to develop strategies, analyze situations, and constructively solve challenges.
- Team player with proven skills in working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with limited supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Google Apps. Microsoft Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite. Some proficiency in Video Development, Distribution List/Newsletter Software, Tableau, Hootsuite, HTML, CSS, WordPress, and Drupal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with U.S. Government communications preferred.
