### Communications Manager
**Summary of Functions**
NAPABA is seeking a highly motivated and member-oriented communications professional to strengthen NAPABA’s presence and communicate our impact in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) legal community and beyond.
The Communications Manager is charged with ensuring NAPABA’s brand and voice are effectively communicated in alignment with NAPABA’s goals, strategic priorities, and mission. The Manager plays a vital role in collaborating across teams to optimize and deliver meaningful content to our members and external stakeholders. This role is responsible for the day-to-day communication operations including management of a nonprofit communications agency that contributes to content development, deploys external communications, creates graphics, and drives annual communications strategy. The ideal candidate will require a strong command of NAPABA’s member offerings and advocacy priorities and is able to drive effective communication to market opportunities and inspire engagement. This position requires strong project management skills, and the ability to approach the work with the utmost proactiveness. The Communications Manager must be an effective communicator and have a keen ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
### Essential Duties and Responsibilities
**Communication Operations**
– Manage the day-to-day relationship with our nonprofit communications agency by liaising between staff members and agency consultants, managing weekly meetings, and daily email communications.
– Serve as the traffic controller to ensure timeliness of communications and ensure brand consistency.
– Collaborate with staff members to create and manage project timelines that ensure effective and efficient deployment of communications.
– Manage email lists among various staff and databases to ensure segmentation and optimization.
– Manage relationships with marketing and communications vendors.
– Develop and monitor the marketing and communications budget and demonstrate sound fiscal judgment in the use of all NAPABA resources and offer cost-saving alternatives.
– Scale the department for future growth by creating templates, processes, and best practices.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
**Content Development & Management**
– Amplify the organization’s impact through persuasive, uplifting, and compelling narratives using words and imagery.
– In partnership with our communications agency, strategize and develop key messages for various audience segments for membership and policy related marketing messages.
– Collaborate across teams to write or copy-edit, manage, and oversee the execution of email marketing campaigns, newsletters, organizational statements, and social media posts related to membership, programs, events, and policy and advocacy initiatives.
– Establish and manage the use of styles guides, messaging, and organizational voice protocols to maintain consistency in communications, branding, and content.
– Oversee the NAPABA website and manage content updates, enhance webpage presentation and design, optimize for search engines, and audit webpages to ensure content remains relevant.
– Project lead the NAPABA podcast and work collaboratively with stakeholders to support the production.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
**Media Relations**
– Manage NAPABA’s presence on social media, including Instagram and LinkedIn.
– Develop and implement a target media relations plan, including cultivating relationships with media contacts, pitching content, stories, and speakers.
– Track media coverage of NAPABA and produce regular reports with analysis of media coverage and public engagement.
– Manage media requests and connect contacts with substantive experts within the organization.
– Leverage and nurture relationships with communications staff at other legal and AANHPI organizations to launch coalition-style advocacy campaigns.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
**Data Analytics**
– Compile and interpret website, email, and social media analytic reports, including traffic trends and user behaviors.
– Provide regular reports on trends and growth opportunities to internal stakeholders.
– Utilize data insights to make informed decisions and adjustments to communication plans and strategies and collaborate across teams to implement.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
### Qualifications
We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a staff that is highly motivated to deliver quality member service. This position may experience high level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. The ideal candidate has a degree in communications, marketing, or a related field and three to five years’ progressive experience in communications. In lieu of a degree, five to eight years of relevant experience may suffice.
– Excellent writing, editing, and research skills.
– Strong project management skills, organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to work independently are all required.
– Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
– Excellent member-oriented ethic and ability to interact positively and effectively with a variety of audiences (including internal and external stakeholders) using written, verbal, and nonverbal communications.
– Ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure and with multiple deadlines.
– Strict attention to detail.
– Capacity to adapt to new issues as they emerge.
– Ability to use good judgment and work independently in a multi-task position.
– Demonstrated negotiation skills and creative approach to problem solving.
– Ability to interact effectively with staff, membership, the public, the board of directors, and volunteers.
– Fluency or ability to develop fluency with workflow process tools used by the staff, including Microsoft Office, Slack, Asana, Box, and others.
### Logistical Requirements
– NAPABA operates on a 37 ½ work week with flexible hours and remote workdays.
– Ideally, the candidate should reside in the DC metro area. But regardless of residency, the candidate must commit to work in-person in NAPABA’s DC office regularly and as needed.
– The candidate will be required to be present and available throughout the NAPABA Convention and during other NAPABA and NAPABA Law Foundation events.
– The candidate will be required to be present at NAPABA Law Foundation Board meetings.
– Periodic travel is required, estimated at two to three weeks in a 12-month period.
### Salary
$70,000 – $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
