Job Summary/Definition
The Development & Communications Associate contributes to key development processes and the organization’s external communications efforts. This individual will contribute to the success of NSC’s fundraising efforts by operationalizing best-in-class fundraising and communications practices. The Development & Communications Associate will assist in donor relations, board relations, prospect research, and communications. With an eye toward detail and a desire to outperform expectations, the Development & Communications Associate will play a key role in ensuring NSC has the resources necessary to support newcomers upon arrival in America.
Job Duties
Donor Relations
- Work collaboratively with the development and finance teams to acknowledge donations through both tax documentation and expressions of gratitude.
- Work with the development team to advance donor relationships utilizing a Moves Management framework.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of donor engagement events.
- Work with the development team to analyze donor data to inform plans, processes, and practices.
- Engage with current or potential donors through engagement events or when information is requested.
Board Relations
- Staff board meetings, schedule committee meetings, and document both board and committee meetings, as requested.
- Partner with Development Committee Chair to ensure annual payment of board dues.
- Work with individual board members to encourage participation in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.
Prospect Research
- Conduct donor research to inform cultivation and stewardship efforts.
- Working with the development team, use donor data and prospect research to identify opportunities for revenue growth and network expansion.
- Communicate identified prospects to the board for exploration and action.
Communications
- Draft copy for use in digital and print assets.
- Contribute to external communications efforts, including social media, the organization’s website, and regular donor communications.
- Identify opportunities for segmented donor communications to increase revenue.
- Work with the development team to guide cultivation and stewardship efforts of organizational leaders.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- A commitment to NSC’s mission and a belief that immigrants strengthen communities.
- Exceptional abilities in relationship management and written communications.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with approaches to fundraising and network engagement.
Preferred Qualities

Experience, Education, and Licensure
- Minimum Experience: 2+ years of development and/or communications experience in a non-profit environment.
- Minimum Education: BA/BS from an accredited university.
Compensation: The position is full-time. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Working Conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Although work is primarily indoors, you may be required to travel outside to client and community locations.
- Travel in and around NSC’s service delivery area to support clients’ access to services.
- Certain visits or work-related appointments might be scheduled outside of traditional work hours as necessary.
- COVID-Vaccine: NSC has determined that the best way to protect our employees and the community we serve is to require all staff who are working on-site be fully vaccinated.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need to maneuver around the office, be in a stationary position for extended periods of time, handle or feel objects, tools, or equipment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Operate related office equipment and use necessary tools.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include: frequent reading and close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
