The Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) team helps PepsiCo navigate the increasingly volatile and complex policy and regulatory landscape in which our company operates. By anticipating opportunities and risks, we facilitate positive environments and avoid discriminatory regulations. Further, our proactive engagement with a range of external stakeholders ensures PepsiCo has a seat at the negotiating table and allows us to help shape fair policies that are science-based and protect consumer choice.
This position is responsible for implementing programs and strategies to enhance PepsiCo’s federal and state policy standing in the environment space and help achieve the company’s environmental Public Policy and Government Affairs objectives. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our PPGA function significantly contributes to our organizational aspirations and helps to create a landscape conducive to business success. Achieving this involves actively engaging with key stakeholders and staying abreast of new developments within the industry.
This is a hybrid role located in Washington, D.C. and requires 25-30% travel

Responsibilities
- US leader for environmental policy for North America Public Policy and Government Affairs function, supporting actions of PPGA global colleagues, as well as coordinating with R&D on packaging and product environmental impacts.
- Reporting to the Sr. Director, NA PPGA, this role represents the company on policy issues impacting the food and beverage industry within industry coalitions, negotiating industry positions/policies.
- Engage with a variety of stakeholders, including NGOs, SRIs, coalitions, to promote company and secure needed feedback to disseminate throughout company.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in environment and stakeholder reporting requirements
- Strong interaction with internal subject matter experts and external coalitions to review and prioritize issues, set strategies, and devise action plans to address current and emerging policy issues.
- Ability to communicate (written and oral) on critical issues with senior management, policymakers, and leading NGOs. Writing ability to develop policies and frame issues and provide stakeholders with appropriate information.
- Develop and implement comprehensive issue advocacy campaigns and management strategies on key environment policies.
- Represent the company externally on priority environmental policy issues for the company with policymakers and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor, prioritize and provide consultation on all sustainability public policy developments impact on PepsiCo Business in priority areas; maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external colleagues, including lawmakers and staff; articulating positions with lawmakers, trade associations and outside the organization; and communicating with appropriate internal colleagues to understand impacts and help formulate effective responses.
- Maintain a network of relationships with lawmakers, staff, industry representatives and other stakeholders.
- Carry out strategies and actions with the highest level of integrity and ethics.
- Maintain strong interaction and internal coordination with the Global Public Policy team and broader Corporate Affairs function as well as relevant internal Subject Matter Experts within PepsiCo’s North American businesses and at corporate level, including their Sustainability, Operations, Procurement and Legal functions.
Compensation & Benefits The expected compensation range for this position is between $113,300 – $226,600 based on a full-time schedule. Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Bonus based on performance and eligibility; target payout is 25% of annual salary paid out annually. and an additional target payout of 10% of annual salary is paid out over 3 years following the end of the performance period. Long term incentive equity may be awarded based on eligibility and performance. Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10+ years in environmental government affairs, public policy, or corporate public.
- Strong understanding of government & legislative process, previous service in relevant government institutions strongly preferred (e.g. EPA, House Energy and Commerce Committee, Senate Environment & Public Works Committee)
- Must be willing to travel 25-30%, some international
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to understand environmental trends and translate into implications for industry.
- Strong leadership and relationship development skills internally and externally.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral) to lay out issues and solutions, while interfacing with multiple levels in the organization.
- A strong understanding of the environmental policy and reporting public policy landscape – the actions of companies, governments, and NGOs.
- Ability to put together and manage coalitions.
- Strong negotiation skills to manage internal and external stakeholders on issues.
- Must have ability to work independently and efficiently with little supervision.
- Ability to prioritize issues and adapt quickly.
- Should have demonstrated experience managing projects to completion.
