NAB Show is produced annually by the National Association of Broadcasters at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. NAB is the premier advocacy association for America’s broadcasters. Summary

The Director, Media Relations is responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of media relations, public relations and social media for NAB Show, NAB Show New York and any other GCE initiatives. This position supports GCE’s marketing, sales and content teams in developing integrated, cohesive messaging and assets that strengthen NAB Show’s position and reach in the global media and entertainment industry. The Director, Media Relations also executes effective communications strategies to elevate GCE’s brands to drive revenue, increase attendance, facilitate engagement and generate positive earned media.

Essential Functions

  • Lead media outreach to industry trade publications and mainstream media outlets. Serve as media point of contact and spokesperson for GCE events and initiatives. Manage communications contractors.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with reporters, influencers and official media partners to support audience and revenue growth strategies.
  • Maintain a consistent dialogue with reporters about NAB Show and its influence with the media and entertainment industry.
  • Create media events and other ways to engage with media throughout the year with the goal of attending NAB Show and creating positive media stories about the show.
  • Pitch stories to media about key narratives of NAB Show including those covering growth target industries and categories who have never attended or written about the show.
  • Author key messaging documents for each show. Produce and distribute news releases, executive Q&As, press section of show websites and promotional materials for publication. Collaborate with Public Affairs as needed on initiatives that involve advocacy and member programs.
  • Develop, manage and grow targeted press distribution lists to reflect audiences and technologies represented at events.
  • Facilitate pre-show and onsite live coverage requests to include interviews between key reporters, VIP speakers, exhibitors, strategic partners and NAB leadership. Conduct briefings in preparation for interviews.
  • Work with GCE and Industry Affairs staff to secure top-tier journalists as session moderators.
  • Respond to requests for information from the media.
  • Oversee exhibitor public relations resources and services designed to garner media coverage. Manage press conference scheduling process. Build relationships with exhibitor publicists and secure information regarding product launches, in-booth activities etc. for use in event promotions.
  • Manage the onsite show newsroom. Lead planning and staffing activities including press briefing room and special events for VIP press.
  • Participate in content marketing strategy leveraging editorial, audio and video formats to promote shows and engage audiences across multiple channels and platforms. Define key metrics, measure and evaluate performance.
  • Contribute to the development of the monthly editorial calendar aligning with key show themes.
  • Write articles to engage with audiences to attract to NAB Show and NAB Show New York throughout the year. Source and manage contributors as needed.
  • Direct the social media strategy to facilitate community engagement and support marketing programs. Oversee channel management. Leverage best practices. Manage social media contractors.
  • Direct contracted publishers, guide editorial content for NAB Show Daily News and associated products. Support efforts to evolve products to generate new revenue and/or support new growth markets and target audiences. Negotiate contracts, manage relationships and budgets with related vendors.
  • Work closely with marketing team members to ensure all marketing and communications activities support the strategic objectives across the GCE business portfolio.
  • Develop a complete understanding of GCE’s business portfolio and the industries it serves, including appropriate product categories, technology trends, audience make-up, community needs, conference topics, other major associations and competitors, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree and 7+ years of related experience in media relations, public relations, and communications.
  • Experience representing an event or product to the media.
  • Experience developing and managing relationships with reporters, including outreach to new outlets to expand media coverage.
  • Experience pitching stories to media outlets to expand reach and coverage of an event or product.
  • Knowledge of best practices and latest tools and tactics for targeting and engaging with media, conducting outreach, disseminating news and garnering earned media.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to travel 10% throughout the year.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of entertainment, media and technology industry.
  • Trade show experience.

Work Location and Schedule

This position is eligible for NAB’s Hybrid Work Schedule of three days in the D.C. office each week.
