Hispanic Federation (HF) is a nonprofit membership and advocacy organization, founded in 1990, committed to empowering and advancing the Hispanic community, with a focus on low-income, marginalized and immigrant Latinos. With programs in 40 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia, HF’s focus areas include immigration, economic empowerment, civic engagement, disaster relief, philanthropy, education, health, and the environment. Who We Seek
Hispanic Federation seeks a dynamic Director of Digital Communications to develop and oversee strategies and content creation across HF’s digital platforms. The director will ensure that HF presents a unified voice on its online platforms and actively engage the public to promote HF’s work at the national and regional level. The director will oversee content creation for HF’s website, social media platforms, email communications, texting campaigns, and other forms of outreach.
A successful candidate has a passion for communications and is an experienced strategist creating and planning content across various platforms. The director will also have experience in supervision as they will oversee the work of the Digital Communications Manager and work closely with consultants to collectively develop and execute content.
This position is hybrid and will require onsite presence either in the office or on the field with a minimum of 10 days onsite.

Location: Washington, DC, or New York City
Responsibilities
- Serve as the point of contact for all digital media needs; streamline requests and collaborate with various internal teams to ensure the communications strategy is being executed.
- Develop and implement engaging social media plans and content across the Federation’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts.
- Work closely with the rest of the communications team to develop digital components to non-digital media plans.
- Provide guidance for programmatic and state-level social media accounts to ensure uniformity across organizational accounts that are directly or indirectly managed by the digital communications team.
- Develop social media plans and toolkits for programs that can be leveraged by internal teams and external partners.
- Document events by capturing photos and video while also publishing content in real-time with staff support.
- Generate reports to analyze social media performance and optimize social media content to ensure maximum reach.
- Collaborate with multiple divisions within HF to develop engaging online PSAs campaigns with the support of third-party vendors.
- Lead the development and production of explainer videos and content featuring staff members and promoting programs and services offered by HF.
- Oversee the development and distribution of newsletters, mass emails and texts, brochures, calls to action, and other digital communications.
- Maintain the HF website up-to-date by ensuring that new information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly, manage website issues with consultants, as they arise.
- Turn policies and programmatic information into exciting and engaging messaging, disseminating it to the right audiences through the best channels is critical.
- Supervise the work of the Digital Communications Manager.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree and at least four (4) years of communications experience required. Communications experience with a national, multi-focused nonprofit highly desired.
- Experience working with communications tools, such as Meltwater, Phone2Action, and Blackbaud.
- Experience working with social media management tools such as Hootsuite and Social Sprout is required.
- Experience with non-linear editing on software like Adobe Premiere.
- Ability to shoot video on DSLR cameras or smart phones.
- Experience creating engaging content on Canva, Photoshop, Adobe InDesign.
- In-depth knowledge of leveraging Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other emerging social media platforms to maximize reach.
- Ability to create reports and one-pagers evaluating social media performance, metrics, and analytics.
- Understand how to leverage social media metrics and analytics to increase follower count and implement strategic posts.
- Experience with creating organic posts and paid ads with external stakeholders.
- Experience managing outreach lists for email and text communications.
- Experience or ability to develop scripts for video content, PSAs, or news content.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to speak and write in Spanish is strongly preferred.
- A strong track record as a proactive implementer who can also multitask.
- Strong collaborator who has experience managing multiple stakeholders.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Highly collaborative.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000. Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with fully subsidized medical, dental, vision insurance, 403(B) retirement plan – eligible for a company match, access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter benefits. Full-time regular employees are also provided with fifteen (15) vacation days, four (4) personal days, and paid sick time.
HF is a hybrid work environment with the opportunity to work from home 50% of the time.
