### Brief Description

The Director of Scientific Regulatory and Health IT Policy is responsible for:

– Serving as a strategic thought leader on advocacy strategies, policies, and programs to influence all aspects of scientific regulatory and federal health IT policy, and laboratory oversight and regulation.
– Directing a team responsible for advocating and communicating CAP policy positions and strategies with key federal government agencies and other external entities.
– Fostering collaboration within the Policy/Advocacy RU and across the CAP to build a unified public policy and advocacy agenda for the CAP on scientific regulatory and health IT policies that impact pathology and laboratory medicine.
– As a member of the leadership team, cultivating a culture of inclusion for all employees and respecting their individual strengths, views, and experiences. Embracing and actively promoting an inclusive and equitable work environment.
– Ensuring appropriate utilization of CAP resources by leading and developing a team of highly motivated and skilled employees and fostering an inclusive environment that encourages individual learning, innovation, and professional development.
– Partnering with senior leadership in matters related to engagement and external organizational relationship cultivation.

### Specific Duties

Primary duties and responsibilities:

– Managing a portfolio of scientific and health IT initiatives and activities to ensure alignment with overall CAP strategies.
– Developing and implementing advocacy strategies on issue areas including laboratory oversight and regulation, artificial intelligence, data science, and public health.
– Directing CAP advocacy with assigned departments and agencies of the Executive branch including FDA, CDC, ONC, NIH, and CMS.
– Advocating and communicating CAP’s policy positions and strategies with key federal government agencies, other medical societies, stakeholders, and coalitions. Proactively building stakeholder and coalition support for CAP positions to amplify the CAP’s advocacy positions. Strategizing, overseeing, and developing CAP staff interactions with federal agencies and external stakeholder groups for areas of responsibility.
– Identifying and monitoring key trends in the scientific, public health, and HIT environments that may impact pathologists and laboratory medicine, including issues related to laboratory oversight and regulation (e.g., CLIA, digital pathology, clinical laboratory science); FDA regulations (e.g., LDTs, risk classification process), emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, genomics, personalized medicine), data science (e.g., interoperability, CEHRT, patient access to data), and public health (e.g., lab preparedness, forensics).
– Liaising with CAP’s appropriate scientific and HIT-related council and committees to ensure CAP’s policy and advocacy positions are consistent with Council on
