SUMMARY

The Economic Policy Advisor will serve on the Women’s Economic Empowerment Team within the Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI) and advise on global women’s economic security and empowerment issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Economic Policy Advisor will serve on the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Team within S/GWI, reporting to the WEE Director, and advising the Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues on global women’s economic security and empowerment, with a focus on removing structural barriers, to include legal and cultural barriers to women succeeding as entrepreneurs and in the workforce, as well as the impact of unequal care work.  The Economic Policy Advisor will also cover women’s economic empowerment policy for 1–2 geographic regions.
  • The Economic Policy Advisor will engage with a wide range of interlocutors, including Department of State’s Regional Bureaus, Posts, and E family bureaus, as well as the interagency and National Security Council, in addition to foreign counterparts bilaterally.  The Economic Policy Advisor will also directly support S/GWI Principals, to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality through high-level bilateral and regional engagement.
  • S/GWI leads efforts to integrate gender policy through U.S. foreign policy globally, working closely with the White House, Congress, and other U.S. government agencies as well as the intra-agency community.  The candidate may represent S/GWI at various intra- or inter-agency meetings and will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships within and external to the USG, as well as coordinating with a wide array of stakeholders.

EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in political science, foreign affairs, economics, law, or a similar field AND.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in international politics/foreign policy, research & evaluation, social science, or other related fields.
  • Experience with leadership in policy analysis, development, and coordinate on security, human rights, gender, or economic policy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • An active SECRET security clearance which can be verified in DISS or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Strong skills in communication, policy formulation, and multi-stakeholder coordination.
  • Ability to prepare draft briefing papers, talking points, and/or speeches, as needed.
  • English language (written and spoken) communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and encourage consistent, solid performance.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate activities in multiple locations, act decisively in daily work, and work well in a multi-cultural team environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills. Ability to work interpedently to assess priorities and manage daily coordination of details with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and background investigation prior to hire

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in a climate controlled office environment.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 14042

Pursuant to U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, Cherokee Federal is now requiring that all employees be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8th and going forward. TEMPORARY NOTE: On Tuesday, Dec. 7, a federal judge issued an injunction blocking President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors (EO 14042). Cherokee Federal is monitoring the court case and awaiting a final ruling. As a result of the injunction, Cherokee Federal is halting the enforcement of the mandate, however, if the injunction is lifted and the mandate remains, Cherokee Federal must reenact its vaccine requirement.
