About The Job
The Global Privacy & Regulatory Affairs team handles and oversees legal privacy and regulatory matters pertaining to TikTok’s global operations. The team works cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders in the US and around the world to tackle some of the most complex, interesting, and cutting-edge issues in privacy and security. We are looking for highly motivated, experienced, and bright legal professionals to join our exciting team.

Responsibilities
Actively monitor, brief, and advise colleagues in GPRA and cross-functional stakeholders on global privacy laws and new legislative and regulatory developments impacting ByteDance’s global payments business. Help drive global payments privacy strategy.

Review new products, product features, and initiatives, including the use of AI, to identify relevant legal and regulatory requirements impacting the payments business and guide compliance with privacy and data protection laws and internal policies. Coordinate with regional counsel and cross-functional stakeholders to align multi-jurisdictional assessments and facilitate global privacy design and compliance efforts.

Advise on privacy compliance requirements as part of new payments and financial services license application processes, driving privacy compliance programs supporting such initiatives.

Advise on payments-related privacy questions, including those related to the collection and use of data in connection with payments transactions, AML/KYC processes, data retention, and cross-border data transfers.

Support the development of internal and external global privacy policies, notices, processes, standards, and guidelines relevant to the payments business.

Assess and advise on third-party relationships, including data processing agreements and negotiation of privacy-related contract terms.

Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of privacy and data protection policies and controls across the payments business.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) and qualification to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction

4+ years of privacy-related legal experience

In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and payments industry data protection standards, including CCPA, UK GDPR and EU GDPR, FCRA, PCI-DSS, and NIST

Experience advising on privacy matters impacting payments business processes, such as those related to KYC/AML, payments processing, buy-now-pay-later, and vendor relationships

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive legal experience

CIPP certification in one or more jurisdictions

Experience advising on global privacy laws and regulations and reporting requirements in the payments or financial services sector

Job Information
For Pay Transparency: Compensation Description (Annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $213,000 – $376,200 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure). The company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits programs at any time, with or without notice.
