Summary: Progressive Maryland was founded to empower communities to act for social and economic justice by developing leaders and cultivating allies to build a grassroots movement. With over 125,000 members and supporters, we collaborate with religious, community, and labor organizations statewide.
Campaign Organizer: Under the Campaigns Director’s supervision, the Organizer will sustain and expand our criminal justice reform campaign. Responsibilities include building a grassroots base, recruiting leaders, and mobilizing the base for actions. The Organizer will also collaborate with regional organizers, meet outreach goals, and represent Progressive Maryland in coalition spaces.
Responsibilities:
- Build a base of members, volunteers, and grassroots leaders for criminal justice reform.
- Recruit, develop, and train leaders for the campaign.
- Manage and train members for canvassing and phone banking.
- Mobilize the base for actions, events, and legislative involvement.
- Use phones, social media, and community outreach for member recruitment.
- Invite individuals to become dues-paying members.
- Meet weekly base building and outreach goals.
- Develop and implement campaign plans with the support of the Campaigns Director.
- Represent Progressive Maryland in coalition spaces.
Qualifications:
- Experience leading on a social justice issue or progressive electoral campaign.
- Direct experience in grassroots community organizing, canvassing, and phone banking.
- Basic computer literacy and adaptability to new digital platforms.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines under pressure, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to train and manage member volunteers.
- Critical thinking, communication skills, and flexibility.
- Clear understanding of community challenges and a drive to address them.
- Residence in or willingness to relocate to Maryland or DC.
Pluses (but not required):
- Familiarity with Maryland political systems.
- Experience with Votebuilder/VAN and other campaign platforms.
- Experience in criminal justice reform and progressive drug policy approaches.
Travel: All positions require reliable vehicle access, a valid driver’s license, laptop, phone, and willingness to travel within your region regularly and throughout Maryland as needed.
Salary, Benefits, and Position Details: Salary: $50,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan with an employer match, 2 weeks paid vacation, 6 personal days, 15 sick days, and holidays. This position is in the bargaining unit, represented by UFCW Local 1994.
