Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a Manager for its Advocacy and Strategic Alliances team to provide general support for the team and serve as a project manager for key events, educational briefings, and reporting.
The Manager will report to the Chief of Staff for Advocacy and Strategic Alliances and will work closely with the whole Alliance team and colleagues across PhRMA. The Manager will support the development and implementation of strategies that impact the biopharmaceutical public policy debate through work with third-party allies.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate calendars of three department leaders, including scheduling in-person and Zoom meetings, proactively identifying and reconciling scheduling conflicts, coordinating materials, equipment, and catering for conference room meetings, and distributing materials and welcoming/escorting guests.
- Support the department in tracking content generation across priority areas and reporting key metrics and ASA team accomplishments.
- Align closely with other departments, including attending inter-departmental meetings and reporting back to the team, understanding advocacy goals/objectives, and responding to requests promptly.
- Work with the Alliance team to identify areas of opportunity, coordinate external event deliverables, and assist in managing internal events, including cross-functional coordination, drafting presentations and invitations, vetting approvals, and coordination with meetings and IT staff.
- Prepare expense reports, lobbying reports, and coordinate travel arrangements and materials (e.g., meeting documents, talking points, presentations) for an SVP, VP, DVP, and other team members.
- Manage consultants’ email distribution lists and weekly consultant meetings calendar appointments.
- Support the team with materials and correspondence, including coordination, compilation, and distribution of agendas, reports, slide presentations, and talking points.
- Respond to external requests of department leaders by sharing up-to-date biographies, headshots, or completing vetting forms, speaker release forms, etc.
- Assist with the facilitation of procurement of supplies for the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a visible position and is both internally and externally facing. Key success factors for this role include strong organization and execution skills as well as team focus and collaboration skills. The preferred candidate will be skilled in event planning and working under tight deadlines. Political experience and consultant management experience are also preferred. The candidate should be adaptable, able to prioritize and shift gears quickly, comfortable in a high-pressure environment, and politically savvy, diplomatic, responsive, and mature.
Professional Experience / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Affairs, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in grassroots mobilization, coalition development, public affairs, and/or media relations.
- Experience working in a dynamic, high-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic, with the ability to respond quickly to requests.
- Excellent skills utilizing Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Basic understanding of federal healthcare programs (including Medicare and Medicaid).
- Basic understanding of the legislative process.
- Display an ability to inspire confidence within the organization.
- Must be willing to be available after hours and on weekends.
Potential Salary
$78,100 – $105,500 per annum. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
