Responsibilities
Panasonic Manager, Battery Public Policy

What You’ll Get To Do:
The Manager, Battery Public Policy will be a key member of the Government and Public Affairs (GPA) team, monitoring, developing strategy, and lobbying on battery policy at the federal and state levels. This includes focusing on electric vehicles (EVs), EV battery manufacturing, and transportation electrification while coordinating with other GPA team members.
- Support Government and Public Affairs on all lobbying, advocacy, regulatory, and public policy strategies related to the EV battery business in North America.
- Work closely with other GPA team members to ensure coordination across various portfolios, including counterparts in Japan.
- Coordinate, get strategic direction, and provide regular updates to PNA and the Battery Business.
- Ensure alignment with other battery and automotive-related businesses in Panasonic (PIDSA, PASA, SMO) to leverage scale and avoid conflicts.
- Manage regulatory strategy for battery policy in close coordination with PEXNA environment and quality teams. Draft Panasonic feedback on relevant regulations, including technical language.
- Represent Panasonic’s EV battery interests in trade associations at the managerial level. Relevant associations include ZETA, Auto Innovators, Autos Drive America, MEMA, PRBA, and others.
- Engage with political consultants to advance Panasonic battery policy priorities.
Scope
- Hybrid work environment: 3 days/week in office.
- No direct reports, but close collaboration with GPA staff and business unit representatives.
- Travel: 1 international trip and up to 4 domestic trips per month.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in Washington, DC (Congress, Executive Branch, or related corporate/trade association federal affairs) with a focus on energy, EV battery policy, and critical minerals.
- Familiarity with House and Senate legislative processes, federal rulemaking, and political context.
Competencies:
- Nimble: Ability to work within a complex, global company (Government Affairs team, U.S. battery business, Panasonic Energy counterparts, and other functions such as legal, operations, and tax).
- Collaborative: Team player with shared issue management.
- Flexible: Capable of taking on assignments outside the immediate portfolio.
Communications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in writing and public speaking.
- Persuasive: Ability to build strong relationships, analyze complex issues, and be persuasive.
Other Requirements:
- Based in Washington, DC.
- Ability to travel and represent the company in public forums.
- Manage other duties as assigned.

Compensation
The wage range of $148,000 – $160,000 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. Actual compensation varies depending on the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. *The minimum hourly wage will be the greater of the posted range or the local minimum wage where the employee will work, subject to local wage requirements.
