The Social Impact, Multicultural Affairs & Business Councils team is part of the Global Communications and Public Affairs function at Marriott International and is responsible for social responsibility, volunteerism, external stakeholder engagement and a portfolio of initiatives and partnerships which aim to connect our business with communities to drive positive social outcomes and business value. Additionally, this team leads Marriott’s multicultural affairs, cultural competency programs, Business Councils and individuals committed to preserving the history of the Company through the Company’s Archives.

Manager, Social Impact

The Manager, Social Impact is an individual contributor that will support the company’s efforts to lead and drive internal and external awareness of and engagement around the company’s sustainability and social impact (Serve 360) initiatives, programs, partnerships, and volunteer activations. The position is responsible for existing and new program development and maintenance, including providing analytical and project management assistance to projects such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, nonprofit partner management, Serve 360 goal tracking, and collaborating with internal stakeholder groups as they implement strategies to support Serve 360 pull-through. The position reports into the Director, Social Impact Programs and Reporting.

Expected Contributions

Communications Strategy and Serve 360 Engagement:

  • Actively contributes to the overall communications strategy and messaging for Marriott’s Serve 360 platform both internally and externally to elevate Marriott’s Serve 360 platform, goals, achievements, programs, volunteer activations, and partnerships.
  • Develops and drafts communications plans, content, and briefing materials to support Marriott’s Serve 360 objectives.
  • Advises on social media and communications efforts related to Serve 360 by collaborating with media relations, internal communications, and all corporate channel owners, to highlight Serve 360 activities and partnerships with key stakeholder groups, including non-profit partners.
  • Develops internal relationships to drive Serve 360 with key departments, such as Human Resources, Legal, and others. Proposes strategies to engage associate audiences and hotel-level stakeholders in Serve 360 activations and goals.

Social Impact Programming and Partnerships:

  • Engages with community partners to drive positive social outcomes and business value, such as Marriott’s refugee hiring initiative, Human Rights programs, and the UNICEF Check Out for Children program. Continually identifies new initiatives and goals with external partners to enhance Marriott International’s social impact leadership.
  • Key contributor to the management of complex and innovative global, national, and local social impact programs.
  • Serves as point of contact with a subset of Social Impact-managed NGO/non-profit organizations, making recommendations on program design and implementation and supporting key activities, such as grant management, contracts, etc.
  • Maintains robust digital record-keeping on related files and content, such as pictures, impact reports, and key data.
  • Collaborates across disciplines globally to ensure the Marriott Disaster Relief Fund delivers funds to associates and communities in times of crisis.
  • Provides support to the broader Social Impact, Multicultural Affairs & Business Councils team as needed, including active involvement at volunteer events, conducting research, and creating one-pagers.

ESG Reporting:

  • Plays a key role in the execution of the company’s annual ESG reporting process, including project plan management, data review/verification, proofreading, protocol management, stakeholder engagement, and timeline management.
  • Provides assistance to ensure reporting processes meet new regulatory requirements; stays up to date on trends and best practices; recommends and implements changes.
  • Contributes to the building and management of internal Serve 360/ESG scorecards and provides support as necessary to ad-hoc reports and scorecards for various initiatives, such as disaster relief and volunteerism.
  • Leads the development and implementation of digital, visual, and storytelling assets to support and highlight reporting content, including regularly updating Marriott’s intranet site.
  • Liaises with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate social impact reporting in internal and external reports, communications collateral, and corporate surveys.

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess the experience, knowledge, and skills as follows:

  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in business, ESG, communications, or related field.
  • Experience and interest in managing global partnerships, projects and/or grants in the non-profit, public and/or private sectors. Experience/interest in ESG reporting and communications.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as SharePoint and Teams.
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, critical, and creative thinking skills, including ability to synthesize data and perspectives into a coherent vision and plan, and provide concise summaries.
  • Adept at building credibility and rapport with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across business disciplines, sectors, and cultures, while upholding the highest professional standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with colleagues across teams and senior management to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Strong project management and communications skills, such as verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and priorities quickly and with ease.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Passion for corporate social responsibility, community engagement, and making positive social impact.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and documents.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college required.
