Media Relations & Rankings Coordinator

The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Media Relations & Rankings Coordinator in the Washington, DC office. The Media Relations & Rankings Coordinator is a full-time position that provides media relations support for the department. The primary focus is coordinating legal directories, rankings, assigned industry surveys, and award nominations for the firm, practice areas, and individual attorneys. The Coordinator also keeps track of all current rankings for the firm, updates attorney bios with current rankings, and maintains the recognition section of the firm’s website.

The Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining a schedule for Chambers USA editorial submissions, coordinating a significant portion of editorial submissions, and arranging phone interviews for attorneys and Chambers’ researchers. The Coordinator is also responsible for writing and obtaining approval for awards and “Top Lawyer” nominations for the firm, for promoting successful placements by obtaining reprints and promoting them on the website, for writing fact sheets for rankings/news summaries, and assisting with other tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Providing a comprehensive range of support for media relations and communications activities for the firm and individual attorneys, with a significant focus on directory placements, rankings, and award nominations.
  • Coordinating editorial research and paid attorney and firm profiles in legal directories for the firm, including Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, SuperLawyers, Who’s Who Legal, and PLC rankings.
  • Writing text for award nominations, editorial submissions, and website entries in a compelling, clear, and concise manner; obtaining approval from attorneys.
  • Coordinating with editors at legal and business publications for the submission of awards and nominations; obtaining reprints for successful placements, and promoting news on the firm website.
  • Editing and proofing work, and reviewing work from others on the media team for grammar and to catch typos.
  • Coordinating submission of assigned practice group/industry surveys for publication in local, national, and international legal trade and business press.
  • Creating and maintaining an annual schedule for Chambers USA editorial research.
  • Compiling and maintaining attorney and practice group rankings; updating the recognition/ranking section of individual attorney bios on the firm website.
  • Writing and maintaining fact sheets about rankings/awards for client distribution and pitches.
  • Maintaining entries for the recognition section of the firm’s website.
  • Assisting with drafting and issuing news releases; drafting news items for the firm website and other writing projects as assigned.
  • Assisting with pulling electronic media lists for distribution of news releases.
  • Assisting with issuing news releases to media and posting on the firm website when the Media Relations Specialist is absent.
  • Assisting with placing bylined articles and daily media monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications, or journalism, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years of office/administrative experience; strong emphasis on writing, editing, and project management is a plus.
  • Knowledge of standard business grammar; excellent proofing/editing skills.
  • Ability to use Internet sources is a must.
  • Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software.
  • Excellent administrative and problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibits good judgment interacting with attorneys and media/publishing companies.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain schedules.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines while exhibiting strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate the collection of information and data from multiple sources.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information.

Salary & Application

The anticipated base salary for this position is $55,600 to $70,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and, if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
