Your Impact as a Member of the Public Affairs Team

The Public Affairs Lead initiates, prepares, interprets, reviews, and monitors legislation and regulations affecting Aon in coordination with Aon business units. This individual will primarily focus on assigned state regulatory activities related to the insurance industry. They will work directly with business leaders across Aon and participate in various capacities with trade associations, advocacy groups, and industry events.

This role reports to the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs.

What the Day Will Look Like

  • Be the point of contact for assigned states.
  • Assist with the development and compilation of materials (leave-behinds, fact sheets, etc.) for meetings and advocacy work across North America.
  • Monitor and track activities in state legislation and policies relevant to Aon.
  • Review and provide analysis on state legislation and regulatory activities that impact Aon and the insurance industry.
  • Draft regular legislative activity reports.
  • Attend state regulatory meetings if needed.
  • Administer, manage, assist, and participate in events/meetings as assigned by the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs (tasks include meeting planning, registration, logistics, speaker recruitment, content development, and presenting).

How This Opportunity is Different

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (required); graduate degree in public policy, administration, or business administration (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public policy analysis, education, administration, or government relations/affairs.
  • Strong research, policy analysis, writing, and oral communication skills, including the ability to distill and present complex information concisely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including maturity and the ability to work independently and in a team setting with remote colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with consumers, advocates, and other external stakeholders, including government officials.
  • Efficient, organized work style with the ability to prioritize confidently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to understand the long-term impact of policy decisions and strategies.
  • Proficient in MS Office, internet research, and database information systems.
  • Experience with e-advocacy systems and bill tracking programs (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry (preferred).
  • Ability to travel 2-3 times per month.

Pay Transparency Laws

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $115,000 – $130,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on the applicant’s geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Chicago, Illinois. The actual salary may vary for applicants in different geographic locations.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans and receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to the base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
