We’re searching for our next Public Relations Specialist. This role requires a public affairs/public relations background and will focus on media relations activities that support an office at the U.S. Department of Energy.
The candidate will be highly motivated, data-driven, and will help grow the capacity of ICF Next’s Media Relations Practice. Strong candidates will have experience helping clients track their media outreach efforts and meet their communications and business goals.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic counsel and support media outreach for DOE announcements.
- Pitch national news outlets and energy trade publications on announcements and developments coming out of DOE.
- Develop relationships with reporters and maintain a database containing interactions with media outlets.
- Draft media backgrounders, briefing sheets, and other communication deliverables.
- Distribute daily news clips, as well as analyze print and online stories to determine the effectiveness of outreach.
- Assist in creating monthly media reports by searching and categorizing large amounts of media coverage every month, as well as ad-hoc media coverage reports.
- Stay apprised of the latest trends, tools, and techniques used to garner earned media coverage, as well as digital and traditional outlets covering clean and renewable energy news.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience assisting with media and social media-related campaigns or activities.
- Must be a U.S. citizen (contractual requirement).
- Able to obtain public trust.
- BS/BA in Marketing, PR, Communications, or related field.
- 2+ years of working knowledge of Cision, Meltwater, Critical Mention, MuckRack, Sprinklr, or similar media and social media monitoring programs.
Professional Skills and Experience:
- Previous work in the energy or clean energy sector.
- Excellent communication skills, especially written.
- Strong research and organizational skills.
- PR agency, corporate, or government agency experience preferred.
- Self-starter, with the ability to manage tasks and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of public relations and integrated media.
Job Location(s):
Washington, D.C.-based with availability to work onsite at client facility at least once a week.

Pay Range
There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education, and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is: $65,820.00 – $111,894.00
