Analyst – Regulatory and Government Affairs

Summary
The Surety and Fidelity Association of America (SFAA) is looking for a dynamic and effective candidate to fill the role of Analyst, Regulatory and Government Affairs. This position reports to the Vice President, Government Affairs, and will assist in managing state and federal legislation and regulation. The ideal candidate should have 2–3 years of experience in government relations in a trade association, insurance, financial, or comparable business role. The individual must work closely with state and federal affairs and policy teams to address the association’s advocacy priorities.

We promote the value of surety and fidelity bonding, as well as its vital protections, through advocacy, outreach, promotion, and education. Essential Functions

  • Research, analyze, and summarize state and federal legislation and regulations using legislative tracking, the Federal Register, and various industry and public news sources, including Fiscal Note.
  • Produce periodic reports on state and federal legislation and regulations for SFAA members and SFAA newsletter articles.
  • Assist with political action committee (PAC) activities.
  • Develop advocacy updates for social media pages and SFAA communications.
  • Serve as a staff member for the Government Affairs Advisory Committee (GAAC).
  • Assist SFAA members with the annual Congressional Fly-In.
  • Assemble and submit form, rule, and loss cost filings developed for SFAA members to the state insurance departments to meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and implementing programs, projects, and meetings as needed.
  • Provide a variety of supportive services as directed.
  • Attend various SFAA-sponsored meetings and other events.

Competencies

  • General knowledge of legislative and rulemaking processes.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is preferred.
  • Ability to perform independent research on government affairs and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Strong project management.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work and learn in a fast-paced environment.

Required / Preferred Education and Experience

  • BA/BS degree
  • Experience in a government affairs role preferred.
  • General knowledge of the insurance industry is preferred.
  • Understanding of surety and fidelity bonds is a plus.

Position Type

This is a full-time, exempt position.
Located in Washington, D.C., this is a hybrid position with both time in the office and remote. As job duties demand, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
