Position Overview
Summit Strategy Group is seeking a high-performing, intellectually curious Senior Account Executive to join our fast-growing Public Affairs Practice in Sacramento. This is an opportunity to work at one of California’s most dynamic public affairs and strategic communications consultancies, supporting high-profile clients navigating complex policy, regulatory, and community landscapes across energy, land use, higher education, sustainability, technology, and more.

The ideal candidate brings strong public affairs or strategic communications experience and thrives in a fast-paced, campaign-style environment. You will contribute to work that blends narrative development, media engagement, digital strategy, stakeholder outreach, and policy analysis, helping clients shape debates, build coalitions, and protect their license to operate.

This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in our Sacramento office.

Position Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Public Affairs
Develop compelling narratives, messaging, and written materials across a range of high-stakes public affairs issues.

Support grassroots outreach, coalition engagement, and community mobilization efforts.

Conduct research and distill complex political, regulatory, or industry information into crisp insights, memos, and client-ready briefings.

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, identifying risks, opportunities, and strategic implications for clients.

Contribute to stakeholder mapping, issue landscape analyses, and strategic planning frameworks that guide client decision-making.

Media Relations
Track media coverage relevant to client priorities and identify key journalists, trends, and opportunities.

Draft press releases, media advisories, talking points, and background materials.

Support earned media outreach, list development, pitching, and visibility-building actions.

Digital Communications & Social Media
Help shape digital and social media strategies aligned with public affairs goals.

Work directly with clients to understand priorities and recommend actionable digital solutions.

Update or maintain digital platforms, including websites, microsites, and newsletters.

Produce basic digital content—infographics, social posts, presentations, and branded assets—using tools such as Canva or Adobe.

Collaborate closely with senior leaders and cross-practice teams on integrated communications initiatives.

Client & Project Management
Lead or support day-to-day account management, ensuring high-quality, on-time deliverables.

Develop project plans, track deadlines, and maintain strong account organization.

Prepare agendas, meeting materials, follow-up notes, weekly updates, and monitoring summaries.

Coordinate special projects and fast-turn assignments across multiple client engagements.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:

2–4 years of experience in public affairs, strategic communications, public relations, or related fields.

Exceptional writing and editing skills, including the ability to translate complex issues into clear, persuasive messages.

Demonstrated experience in media relations and/or digital communications.

Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) tools such as Mailchimp, Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud, Squarespace or WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic media monitoring tools.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.

A proactive, collaborative mindset and a desire for accelerated professional growth.

Familiarity with California policy, political, or regulatory issues (preferred).

A diversity of professional backgrounds is welcome; strong critical thinking and communication skills are essential.
