Job Overview

ASCO is seeking a passionate and high-performing Senior Health Policy Specialist for Cancer Research. In this role, you will provide expertise on health policy issues related to cancer research, including clinical trials and pharmaceutical development. This hybrid position is primarily based in Alexandria, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Identify emerging policy issues and develop policy positions related to clinical research and drug development.
  • Lead workgroups to create, update, and review organizational policies.
  • Provide content expertise for ASCO’s legislative and regulatory activities, focusing on clinical research and relevant federal agencies like NIH, NCI, and FDA.
  • Analyze legislation, regulations, and state-specific issues; assist in preparing written comments for submission to Congress and federal agencies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with health policy and oncology organizations.
  • Evaluate statutory and regulatory initiatives affecting cancer care delivery and research.

Qualifications

  • Required Education and Experience:
    • Master’s Degree (MBA, MPH, MPP) or higher
    • 5+ years of experience in a similar role within a society, think tank, or government agency
    • Experience with federal government drug review and approval processes
    • Knowledge of clinical trial protocols, IRBs, and human subject research
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
    • Experience in oncology drug development or cancer clinical trials
    • Experience representing an employer with external stakeholders
