Job Summary: Senior Manager for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

The Senior Manager for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will develop and implement the organization’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and strategy to foster a more inclusive and equitable workplace and create a more diverse workforce that reflects the diversity of the populations in which we work. This position will incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into GMF’s culture through focused initiatives aimed internally, through policies, practices, and training, and externally through GMF’s partnerships and programming. The incumbent will advise management on suitable strategies for addressing the equity and inclusion perspectives of our European offices which differ from those in the U.S. S/he/they will promote and implement practices to ensure a workplace that is equitable and inclusive for employees of all backgrounds regardless of their work location or social identities. S/he/they will collaborate with managers and the executive team to develop an overall DEI plan and DEI goals, design, coordinate, track and measure organizational DEI initiatives and impact.

S/he/they must exercise discretion, good judgment, and initiative. S/he/they are expected to initiate, drive, and deliver people-related change management programs, earn trust with employees, collaborate with management, and translate research into action. S/he/they are expected to infuse the organization with a passion for meaningful diversity, equity, and inclusion solutions, rigorous goal setting, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

DEI CAPACITY BUILDING:

  • Oversee and provide flexible and engaging options for GMF’s mandated staff DEI annual requirement including DEI workshops, coaching sessions, and thought partnership.
  • Monitor and aid staff members in their completion of GMF’s mandated staff DEI annual requirement.
  • Facilitate monthly interactive and engaging DEI workshops for staff to increase their understanding of DEI and how to apply it to their roles.
  • Engage in DEI thought partnership across all GMF workstreams and hubs to innovate and introduce solutions for workstreams to apply best DEI practices to their work.

GMF’S INTERNAL DEI PORTFOLIO:

  • Continue to conduct GMF’s annual staff assessment that collects and analyzes statistical and demographic data to evaluate GMF’s population and the organization’s DEI strengths, opportunities for more equity and inclusion in the context of DEI standards and goals.
  • Analyze and report GMF’s DEI strengths, opportunities, and recommendations for more equity and inclusion in an annual Equity Report.
  • Implement and oversee implementation of GMF’s Inclusion Roadmap informed by GMF’s annual Equity Report and aimed to guide GMF’s DEI journey.
  • Review current and ongoing implementation of practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support, or hinder, GMF’s DEI goals.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with staff at all levels of the organization in developing, promoting, educating, and implementing diversity and inclusion approaches and best practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion-related issues, legislation, and best practices to serve as a resource and advisor to management and staff.
  • Manage GMF’s DEI Core Group’s initiatives.
  • Advise and assist GMF’s President, SVPs, and Board of Trustees on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts related to GMF, its programming activities and external partnerships.

GMF’S EXTERNAL DEI PORTFOLIO

  • Partner with various workstreams as they put on external events, fellowships, and program delivery.
  • Utilize contacts and partnerships to build a pipeline for underrepresented talent at GMF and implement recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees, interns, and fellows from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Represent GMF externally at conferences, through fellowships, and through networking in order to increase GMF’s visibility in the context of DEI.

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

  • 10+ years’ experience directly developing and leading the strategic planning and execution of diversity programs and initiatives that drive diverse talent retention, inclusion, employee engagement, education, and awareness.
  • 3+ years of experience coaching managers and executive teams on inclusive leadership initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in navigating sensitive employee relations conversations internally, including with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated experience building strong partnerships both internally and externally, including with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and build strong relationships throughout the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, strategic and innovative thinking, and ability to persuade and influence, possessing professional presence and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Superior writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills; must be able to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Strong project management skills, ability to deliver multiple programs in tandem.
  • Ability to innovate and implement new initiatives.

Education:

  • Graduate degree in organizational development, Psychology, DEI-related degree, and/or Organizational Change OR 12+ years of DEI or organizational development consulting experience.
  • DEI Certification, DEI coaching, or relevant degree preferred.

Salary: $115,808 – $144,760
