We are looking to hire a Senior Manager, Public Policy – Sustainability, to join a growing and dynamic team that works in support of Amazon’s climate, environment, and sustainability goals. Across our entire operation, Amazon is working to transition to clean energy, reduce waste, and limit our impact on the environment. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers.

In this role, the Senior Manager will help lead Amazon’s public policy efforts related to materials sustainability and supply chain decarbonization issues across a broad range of stakeholders, including federal and state governments and agencies. This position will develop and execute policy and advocacy strategies to advance Amazon’s climate, environment, and sustainability goals, including on ecolabeling, certifications, and reporting requirements across a range of consumer goods. The Senior Manager will work collaboratively with business, legal, and communications teams to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. This position will report to the Director, Public Policy – Sustainability and work closely with other public policy team members to execute on goals.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/BA required.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in public policy, government, corporate social responsibility, or NGOs working on relevant topics.
  • A minimum of 12 years of climate, environment, energy, or sustainability policy experience.
  • An ability and desire to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • JD or Advanced Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in government or representing a large, complex company or association.
  • Demonstrated ability to be both a substantive issue expert and a manager of complex political relationships.
  • Experience working with public policy stakeholders and managing multiple policy issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand how technical language in legislative and regulatory proposals could affect corporate operations, identify business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills and political acumen.
  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate and political levels.
  • A self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results.
  • Ability to deliver in ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.

Compensation and Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $245,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
