Senior National Digital Campaigner
The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Senior National Digital Campaigner in the Communication & Marketing Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.
The ACLU Communications and Marketing Department creates, maintains, and amplifies messages and narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and also illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, written content, creative branding, cultivation of celebrity and influencer talent and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Reporting to the Associate Director, National Digital Campaigns the Senior National Digital Campaigner will produce and launch email and text campaigns by working closely with members of their team, the Digital Campaigns team. The Senior National Digital Campaigner will execute campaigns that increase and retain the number of ACLU supporters and donors, expand engagement with these audiences, maximize online fundraising, and support the organization’s policy goals through digital advocacy efforts. The Senior National Digital Campaigner plays a critical and lead role in advancing digital production practices for the Digital Campaigns team.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
- Help execute compelling digital campaigns that drive supporters to take action and donate to the ACLU with a special focus on maximizing online fundraising opportunities
- Code and test responsive HTML and CSS emails using email marketing software; review and edit emails to ensure quality
- Produce and test online advocacy forms, donation forms, event forms, and other campaign landing pages
- Serve as the broadcast text product and program manager
- Develop and maintain documentation of team processes and workflows for production
- Manage Digital Campaigns team-related projects; assign and approve related tasks
- Serve as principal resource and lead – providing support, training and guidance – to all Digital Campaigners and other colleagues or interns as needed
- Help implement A/B and multivariate split tests across email, text and web, and assist with reporting in collaboration with our Analytics department
- Support their team in identifying opportunities and developing strategies for high-impact digital engagement and advocacy campaigns through email and text channels
- Manage relationships and work streams across departments, as well as with vendors, consultants and contractors to produce text and email campaigns
- Assist with weekend email and text campaigns as part of a rotating coverage schedule. This includes off-hours production work, as needed, for live coverage of high-priority events or “breaking news” moments
- As needed, help support ACLU affiliates across the country develop and deploy digital campaigns, and leverage best practices related to email and text outreach
- Contribute to a culture of continuous, data-driven learning and evaluation

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated experience in digital marketing, online campaigning, or related fields
- Proficient using HTML and CSS to code responsive emails for multiple email clients
- Familiarity with a range of online campaigning tools, tactics and strategies
- Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communication skills; strong attention to detail, ability to write and deliver work product under deadlines, and commitment to high quality standards.
- Project management experience and exceptional organizational skills
- Successful in training and onboarding new staff with an ability to work in remote settings and adapt training plans to meet individual needs
- Advanced constituent relationship management (CRM) system and email marketing platform experience required
- Expertise with broadcast text tools, building out flows, opt-in paths and running reports
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Drupal, Springboard, Salesforce, and Sailthru experience preferred
- Understanding of trends and best practices for communicating via email and SMS text message
- Familiarity with creating basic reports, including pivot tables and graphs, in Microsoft Excel or similar
- Experience working with and interpreting web and email analytics preferred
- A strong desire to test and learn, this includes a comfort with failure and a desire to learn from failures in order to improve
- Excellent collaboration qualities, ability to work in a dynamic environment with a fast-paced and passionate team
COMPENSATION
The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU’s compensation philosophy there is a set salary for this role. The ACLU also has a locality adjustment policy that applies to salaries. The annual salary for this position is $113,512 (Level G), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY. This position is subject to a hybrid schedule of 2 days/week or 8 days/month in-office.
