What You Will Do

Reporting to the Director of Public Relations & Media, as a Senior Specialist on the Global Public Relations & Media team, you will play an integral role in the development and implementation of effective media relations strategies to protect and enhance the company’s reputation.

You will support the priorities of the broad Johnson Controls portfolio, working with senior members of the leadership team, focusing on supporting the company as it advances smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings.

Your passion for compelling storytelling, combined with attention to detail and comfort influencing across the organization, will help to ensure long-term results and success.

Working with the wider PR, Communications, and Marketing teams, you will lead and continually evaluate communication strategies while bringing new and innovative ideas to the table.

How You Will Do It

  • Proactively identify opportunities to create new and reoccurring news moments, keeping abreast of current events, news cycles, and business developments.

  • Create compelling media pitches, press releases, key messaging, toolkits, and omnichannel content.

  • Actively collaborate with stakeholders across brand, marketing, and communications to mine for stories, particularly in the digital and sustainability areas of focus.

  • Proactively monitor media coverage and regularly analyze public perception to inform strategic adjustments.

  • Help manage a suite of media monitoring tools and support regular metrics reporting to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts.

  • Work alongside broader communication teams, marketing, brand, and social teams to support content creation and executive thought leadership.

  • Implement and manage processes to amplify and reimagine content to drive greater reach, awareness, and impact.

  • Leverage established relationships with key media contacts and outlets.

  • Help manage and deploy third-party agencies to support PR activities.

  • Direct and monitor incoming media inquiries and responses.

  • Maintain and build relationships with key media contacts and journalists.

  • Support the global PR community cadence, content, and outcomes.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in PR and media relations.

  • Support key media events, as needed.

  • Support functional excellence of the PR function, including standardization of materials, process flow, and organization.

What We Look For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

  • At least 4 years of experience in corporate communications or public relations, with a focus on media relations or executive communications.

  • Experience in the technology or building solutions industry. Global, B2B experience preferred.

  • Experience with media monitoring software and measuring the effectiveness of media efforts.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with external audiences and internal teams, with the ability to convey complex ideas simply and effectively.

  • Established relationships with key media contacts and outlets.

  • Ability to think critically and adapt to changing situations while maintaining composure.

  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences and a commitment to exceeding customer expectations.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals and objectives related to customer satisfaction.

  • Ability to travel as required (<10% annually).

This is a hybrid role based at our Glendale, WI office. The requirement is to be in the office 2-3 days per week.
