### Overview

The Senior Specialist, Tax & Regulatory Compliance works closely with the Director of Regulatory Compliance to support the tax filings and analysis of the Society for Human Resource Management and its subsidiaries (collectively “SHRM”). In addition, this position will support the investment portfolio. The Senior Specialist, Tax & Regulatory Compliance will play a key role in preparing detailed tax schedules for both SHRM’s for-profit and nonprofit subsidiaries and will be responsible for the reconciliation of investment information and related summaries of performance.

### Work Environment

– Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
– Expected travel is 0-10% of the time.

### Responsibilities

– Prepare supporting files for IRS Form 990 submissions for SHRM’s 501c3 and 501c6 entities, various state sales tax submissions, business license renewals, and annual reports.
– Provide supporting files for Corporate and international tax returns.
– Assist with preparation of Charitable Solicitation Registrations.
– Coordinate tax forecasting and accruals; record monthly entries.
– Generate or customize accounting system reports related to tax submissions.
– Provide analysis of various business areas, functions, and allocable expenses.
– Prepare monthly journal entries to record investment activity.
– Prepare consolidating schedules and reconciliations of investment activity.
– Independently research various state business compliance requirements.
– Reconcile General Ledger activity related to tax positions and investment.
– Develop and maintain tax policies and procedures; identify and implement recommendations for improvements.
– Other duties and projects as assigned.

### Requirements

– Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration field; or equivalent relevant experience.
– A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Finance/Accounting or a business operations-related role.
– Demonstrated experience in budget creation, report generation, financial and operations analytics.
– For-profit or association experience preferred.

### Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

– Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and Adobe Pro.
– Knowledge of GAAP.
– Familiar with IRS Form 990 and Charitable Solicitation filings.
– Highly organized and detail-oriented.
– Ability to research and communicate complex financial information successfully.
– Excellent analytical aptitude with a proven ability to analyze/interpret data, including financial statements.
– Strong ability to multi-task and adhere to tight deadlines.
– Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
– Advanced Microsoft Office software applications skills—MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
– Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and build consensus across teams and various levels of management.
– Commitment to high standards, customer service, integrity, and ethics.
– Self-motivated, with a sense of autonomy, initiative, and responsibility.
– Experience with financial software including NetSuite and Adaptive Planning preferred.

### Physical Requirements

– Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
– Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The hiring range for this position is $82,000 to $105,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications.
