Senior Vice President (SVP) of Public Policy, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs
The Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) is the voice of the consumer reporting industry, representing consumer reporting agencies, including the nationwide credit bureaus, regional and specialized credit bureaus, and background check companies. CDIA advocates for the responsible use of consumer data to help consumers achieve their financial goals and to help businesses, governments, and volunteer organizations avoid fraud and manage risk.
Position Overview
The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Public Policy, Legal, and Regulatory Affairs will provide leadership and support across the organization’s government relations, legal, and regulatory efforts. This role requires a strategic, dynamic leader with a deep understanding of financial services and a proven ability to navigate complex legislative and regulatory policies impacting the consumer reporting industry. The SVP will serve as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and will work closely with federal regulators to influence policy decisions. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal expertise and communication skills (written and verbal), and extensive experience navigating regulatory agencies and managing third-party stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development and execution of strategy on federal regulatory matters.
- Serve as a lead representative in engaging with federal regulators, including the CFPB and the FTC.
- Oversee the Association’s legal activity, including filings in federal and state proceedings, litigation, and appeals in coordination with outside counsel.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements for the association (state and federal lobby registration, trademark, contracts).
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on key industry policies, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), data privacy, and more.
- Develop policy positions that align with the organization’s strategic objectives, including the development of written material to support advocacy efforts across the association, where needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with CDIA members, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
- Foster collaboration across the organization’s network to ensure alignment with goals related to policy and regulatory matters and member committees as needed.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization on policy and regulatory matters and provide expert commentary as needed.
- Drive long-term strategic initiatives in public policy, legal, and regulatory affairs to achieve organizational goals.
- Collaborate on various CDIA events, webinars, and podcasts to support enriching content for the consumer reporting industry.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with internal teams and external partners to advance key objectives.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree or policy/regulatory background preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in public policy, government relations, legal, or regulatory affairs, with a focus on financial services, credit reporting, or consumer protection.
- Proven track record of working with federal regulators, particularly in areas related to consumer reporting and financial services.
- Strong presence with the ability to effectively communicate with external audiences.
- Experience in leading committees and engaging with diverse membership groups.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Preferred:
- Previous experience as legal counsel or in a legal advisory role.
- Strong knowledge of the credit and consumer reporting industry and its regulatory frameworks.
Salary Range
$250,000 – $275,000
