Office of Communications Responsibilities
The Office of Communications, under the Chief Communications Officer, oversees various aspects, including the School’s brand standards, messaging, print and digital publications, the Sidwell Friends website, video production, media relations, crisis communications and management, and parent relations and programs.
Senior Writer and Content Strategist Role
The Senior Writer and Content Strategist play a crucial role in creating engaging content for diverse audiences, such as prospective families, current families, alumni, and the broader Sidwell Friends community. This role requires initiative, building a network across the School for idea generation, and implementing a comprehensive content strategy aligned with the school’s positioning, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Create compelling content for various channels: news and magazine articles, website copy, community messages, blog posts, social media updates, email campaigns, etc.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop content aligned with their goals.
- Maintain a content calendar for production and distribution strategies.
- Stay updated on education and communications trends, applying them to content development.
- Work with the marketing and communications team to establish a cohesive brand voice and messaging strategy.
- Ensure accuracy and alignment with the School’s values and mission in all content.
- Collaborate with external vendors for content production, including writers, designers, and photographers.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in media or educational/corporate communications.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in various styles and tones.
- Newspaper or journalism experience is a plus.
- Experience in an educational institution is a plus.
- Track record of writing long-form and short-form content from interviews and research.
- Experience in developing/implementing a content strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Strong project management skills, handling multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborative work experience with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and social media platforms.
