Senior Director of Product Policy Role
We are looking for a Senior Director of Product Policy to lead a global team of policy professionals responsible for developing Pinterest’s industry-leading global platform policies. Trust & Safety is core to Pinterest’s mission, and our policies set the foundation for how we build Pinterest as a safe and inclusive space. The Product Policy team develops policies across all types of content, accounts, and behavior on the platform, defining what is and isn’t allowed on Pinterest.
As the Senior Director of Product Policy, you will lead the development of Pinterest’s platform policies for organic content, advertising, shopping, and more. You will collaborate with a broad range of internal stakeholders to inform and get feedback on our policy strategy and partner closely with your fellow Trust & Safety leaders to ensure our policies are enforceable at scale. You will serve as a thought leader on policy issues to leaders and teams across Pinterest, drawing on your deep understanding of policy, industry trends, and Pinterest’s product, mission, and business objectives. You will also represent Policy and Trust & Safety to external stakeholders, including press, regulators, partner organizations, and industry experts, to share and get feedback on our policy approaches. And you will lead a high-performing, distributed team of policy managers and individual contributors, setting team roadmaps, coaching people managers, and holding the team accountable for delivering outstanding work. This role will sometimes involve reviewing graphic and disturbing content and discussing difficult subjects.
What You’ll Do
- Bring to bear your policy experience, exceptional critical thinking skills, comfort with ambiguity, and innovative mindset to drive industry-leading policy positions and solve complex policy challenges.
- Become a trusted partner for our Enforcement Operations, Product, Legal, Public Policy, Corporate Affairs, Communications, and Sales teams, among others, and collaborate with them to develop, iterate on, and implement Pinterest’s policies.
- Engage with external experts, industry partners, regulators, and the press to share and get feedback on Pinterest’s policy approaches.
- Lead a global team, set team strategy, coach people managers, and foster a collaborative, innovative, and psychologically safe team environment that allows all team members to do their best work.
- Stay abreast of industry trends related to online content platforms and anticipate and plan for policy updates to support Pinterest’s continued growth amid a dynamic regulatory and industry landscape.
What We’re Looking For
- An experienced people manager with a passion for developing others, experience managing managers, conducting strategic planning, and holding teams accountable for achieving goals.
- Demonstrated expertise developing content safety, advertising, and/or other platform policies for a large, global platform.
- Exceptional critical thinking and decision-making skills. The ability to thrive amid ambiguity and make hard decisions with limited information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive presentation skills. Experience representing companies externally and engaging with the media.
- Experience building and maintaining strong and productive relationships with a wide variety of internal (e.g., Ops, Legal, Product, Comms, Public Policy) and external stakeholders (civil society groups, regulators, industry groups).
- Experience managing high-profile escalations while maintaining composure and strong decision quality.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and industry trends and best practices in tech policy and enforcement.
