About the Job

Nordstrom is seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications to lead our Brand PR and Corporate Communications efforts. This pivotal role will encompass Brand and consumer PR, executive positioning, crisis and reputation communications, and internal communications. The Senior Director will report directly to the EVP, Chief Marketing Officer, and will be instrumental in shaping and executing communication strategies that protect and enhance Nordstrom’s reputation while driving engagement with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Brand PR and Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack storytelling supporting Nordstrom as the retailer of choice for customers, brand partner of choice for the best brands in the world, and the employer of choice for our people.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive Brand PR strategies that align with Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack’s business objectives and brand vision.
  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of compelling brand stories across existing and new platforms, ensuring consistency and resonance with target audiences.
  • Lead media relations efforts, including managing media inquiries, cultivating relationships with key journalists, and influencing media coverage.
  • Coordinate and execute high-impact PR campaigns and events to enhance brand visibility and customer engagement.
  • Serve as a sounding board to the CMO, CCO, and other executive team members on corporate affairs topics and issues.
  • Support and develop a high-performing team of 20+ communicators and content creators, leveraging best practices and new tools.

Corporate Communications

  • Develop and execute executive positioning strategies to enhance the visibility and thought leadership of Nordstrom key leadership both internally and externally.
  • Craft and manage business storytelling initiatives that communicate Nordstrom’s strategic priorities, achievements, and contributions to the industry.
  • Lead crisis and reputation communications, including the development of crisis communication plans, real-time response strategies, and proactive reputation management efforts.
  • Oversee internal communications to ensure alignment with the company’s vision, values, and priorities, fostering a culture of transparency and engagement among employees.

Collaborative Leadership

  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Merchandising, Human Resources, Legal, Store Operations, and Social Impact to ensure alignment and integration of PR and communications efforts with overall business strategies.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and partners to amplify Nordstrom’s PR and communication initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of PR and communications professionals, fostering an environment of mutual trust, collaboration, and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience, including a leadership role in PR and corporate communications, with a focus on brand storytelling, executive positioning, and crisis management.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing high-stakes communication scenarios and delivering impactful PR campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under pressure.
  • In-depth understanding of social media dynamics, current media landscape, and emerging communication trends.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies for various issues and crises.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team and drive positive collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and analytics.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state-specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $180,000 – $290,000. Additionally, this is a bonus-eligible role.

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401(k), medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, holidays, and more.
