This position is responsible for managing media relations efforts pertaining to public policy and NAB initiatives, including preparing messaging, news releases, promotional materials, and other content for dissemination to news media.

Essential Functions

  1. Participate in development and dissemination of proactive, strategic communications plans to further NAB’s visibility and policy objectives.
  2. Respond to requests for information from the media.
  3. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with mainstream, political, and trade reporters who cover broadcast issues.
  4. Help execute communications plans associated with the promotion of NAB special events, such as State Leadership Conference, Service to America, and others.
  5. Prepare and edit news releases, letters to the editor, op-ed pieces, blog posts, executive Q-&-A’s, talking points, and other content as assigned.
  6. Develop briefing documents and participate in briefings for senior staff preparing for interviews with media.
  7. Oversee organization of department’s collateral material used for rapid response and crisis communications pertaining to public policy issues.
  8. Monitor, research, identify, and disseminate NAB news coverage and news pertinent to NAB’s public policy and technology interests.
  9. Act as department lead in the production of daily industry news summary (SmartBrief) for internal and external consumption.
  10. Distribute/post press releases and other press material via email, Web, and social media.
  11. Proactively promote NAB public policy advocacy positions via social media.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Inside office environment with low to moderate noise level.

Physical Demands

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Expected Hours of Work and Availability to Travel

Must be available and responsive after regular work hours as needed due to breaking news or other unforeseen media situations. Ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the time.

Required Education and Experience

Four-year degree and 5-8 years of related experience, including on-the-record media experience.

Excellent writing, research, and communications skills. Ability to write clear and precise copy.

Strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and handle multiple projects with attention to detail.

Ability to work both as part of a team and independently; a self-initiator, versatile and assumes risk with responsibility.

Preferred Education and Experience

Capitol Hill and/or agency experience.

Broadcast and telecommunications policy experience.
