The Public Affairs Advisor
The Public Affairs Advisor is responsible for the development and execution of a public-facing strategy that encompasses effective and proven communication tactics that define and influence public opinion, policy priorities and positions. This position will lead, oversee, and advance the company’s public affairs strategy by applying a strong working knowledge of the enterprise, the vision care industry, and the core tenets of advocacy and public policy.
Create a positive narrative about the company and the value of eye care and eye health in the U.S. by overseeing and deploying advocacy campaigns and outreach efforts at the state and federal level.
Contribute to the development, implementation, and delivery of the public affairs strategy in alignment with the overall enterprise strategy and in collaboration with the Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility teams to further establish and maintain relations with state and federal leaders.
Lead and/or collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Industry Relations and Government Relations) to raise awareness about the value of vision care and eye health that will lead to the implementation and/or protection of policies that are imperative to the business’ short and long-term strategy.
Use insights and analysis from the Government Relations team about pending and/or new policies that have the potential to impact the eye health industry and/or the company to inform, drive, and lead ongoing advocacy and issue management efforts.
Establish and maintain relationships with consultants, politicians, local community leaders, trade associations, business and advocacy groups including Chambers of Commerce, charitable/nonprofit organizations, and industry partners.
Present and share information on an as-needed basis with internal and external partners about the value the company brings to the healthcare marketplace while helping build support for policies and positions that increase the role eye care and eye health have in healthcare.
Support all other public affairs efforts as needed/assigned.
Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of their job duties.
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, or related field or equivalent experience.
6+ years of related public affairs, public relations, or government affairs experience either in the public or private sector.
Experienced storyteller with strong strategic planning skills.
Proven campaign and/or advocacy experience paired with established relationships with key stakeholders such as trade associations, think tanks, business and advocacy groups, and charitable/nonprofit organizations.
Demonstrated ability to oversee broad, complex, and unstructured tasks ranging from strategic to operational in nature.
Excellent verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to speak clearly and concisely in group situations. Plus, able to effectively communicate information to a wide variety of individuals or groups at all levels of the enterprise.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Top-notch people skills that encompass influencing, delegating, and maintaining strong working relationships.
Output-driven, stakeholder-centric mindset with a history that demonstrates the delivery of short-term wins on the journey to long-term change.
Willingness to listen, learn, and reflect, coupled with an ability to create, challenge, and evolve quickly will be critical success factors.
Proficient at facilitating meetings and influencing/negotiating across all levels of the enterprise.

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Salary Ranges: $80,000.00 – $135,000.00
