Government Affairs Associate

### Salary Range:
$55,000.00 To $65,000.00 Annually

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) and its grassroots member organizations create opportunities for people to build wealth. We work with community leaders, policymakers, and financial institutions to champion fairness in banking, housing, and business. NCRC was formed in 1990 by national, regional, and local organizations to increase the flow of private capital into traditionally underserved communities. NCRC has grown into an association of more than 600 community-based organizations in 42 states that promote access to basic banking services, affordable housing, entrepreneurship, job creation, and vibrant communities for America’s working families.

### Position Overview

Reporting to and working under the direction of the Chief Policy Counsel, the Government Affairs Associate will monitor Congressional action on NCRC’s core issues, perform legislative and policy analysis, draft blogs and briefs, and create infographic resources to explain federal issues for popular audiences. This position will work to mobilize our member organizations for federal legislative and regulatory campaigns as well as to build member organizations’ capacity through trainings, toolkits, coaching, and technical assistance for local and state policy campaigns. The ideal candidate will have the ability to synthesize developments into coherent strategy as well as persuasively explain complex technical concepts to key audiences.

### Location

This position is based in Washington, DC near McPherson Square Metro as part of a hybrid environment with Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Wednesdays in the office.

### Responsibilities

– Work with the Chief Policy Counsel to advance NCRC’s federal legislative and regulatory agenda
– Mobilize member organizations to engage in federal legislative and regulatory campaigns
– Perform legislative research and draft advocacy content for lobby meetings
– Write policy briefs explaining policy developments for popular audiences
– Write blogs describing federal legislative/regulatory developments for popular audiences
– Coordinate NCRC’s in-person Capitol Hill Lobby Day
– Provide technical assistance to member organizations for state and local campaigns
– Develop campaign toolkits for state and local policy campaigns
– Work with Organizing and Membership Departments to recruit potential member organizations to NCRC
– Assist with tasks assigned by Chief Policy Counsel

### Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
– 2+ years of experience of political advocacy on the federal, state, or local level required
– Ability to represent NCRC before federal elected and appointed officials and their staff
– Ability to convey NCRC’s policy positions to stakeholders and popular audiences in a manner that is persuasive and effective
– Knowledgeable about the federal legislative and regulatory environment
– Ability to develop advocacy workshops and training materials
– Excellent research and analytical skills
– Excellent oral and written communication skills
– Demonstrated proficiency with database, legislative tracking and research programs, and other information tracking software
– Capacity to effectively prioritize projects and meet deadlines
– Ability and willingness to travel
