Job Purpose:

This position will have responsibility for cultivating and maintaining effective relationships on behalf of Aventiv and its subsidiaries with key media outlets and assisting the Head of Corporate Affairs and other key executives in doing the same. As the functional lead of the company’s media and communication efforts, the position will both engage directly with media as a public spokesperson and manage a team of outside resources for traditional and social media to advance the reputational goals of the company while achieving the company’s desired positioning on a variety of topics. This person will be an advocate for the organization and will be expected to represent the company with knowledge, persuasion, sensitivity, distinction, and enthusiasm.

Essential Duties:

  • Engage with key stakeholders to nurture relationships, improve brand perception, and grow third-party/ambassador support, including: reporters, family and friends, 3rd-party organizations, social media influencers.
  • Represent the embodiment of transformational efforts in written and oral communications.
  • Support organizational efforts to educate and communicate with stakeholders on product and service improvements, reduced rates, free and re-entry programs/initiatives, and in general, all positive news and information that improves the brand perception.
  • Serve as the supportive foundation for associates to call upon for internal and external communication writing, social media efforts, and media support for facility customers. Additionally, serve as a voice/spokesperson for the company.
  • Assist the organization, facility customers, and other partners with reactive/criticism communications, in addition to internal communications and incarcerated communications.
  • Monitor the media and social landscapes for opportunities and areas of vulnerability/concern.
  • Partner with internal leaders, 3rd-party organizations, and brand ambassadors to help improve brand perception and defend inaccurate claims.
  • Team with Marketing on facility customer and consumer-directed efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to build, create and support connections in the media.
  • Relevant experience as a public spokesperson and media professional.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable operating independently with C-suite executives and media professionals.
  • Robust communicator with the ability to capture large corporate objectives and detailed operational issues in persuasive written material.
  • Can execute strategies independently, hold oneself accountable, and appropriately gauge the need for coordination and assistance.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual and able to execute communications strategies in a geographically dispersed setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 10+ years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or journalism
  • Established list of media contacts
  • Experience in stakeholder/community engagement
  • Possess an ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a collaborative setting
  • Willingness and ability to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related discipline
  • Ability to look outside the box – generate unique campaigns/ideas/opportunities outside the scope of the role
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Team-oriented
  • Accountable and responsible
  • Professionalism
  • Expertise in traditional media relations and social media
  • Refined writing skills

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment. Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
